Kuskie named to Best of Nevada Preps first-team, girls cross country squad

Lowry High School’s Becca Kuskie was named to the first-team Las Vegas Review Journal Best of Nevada Preps girls cross country team.

Runners are chosen from each of the leagues classification from 1A/2A to the 4A and were placed on the first, second or honorable mention teams.

Kuskie, running in her third state meet, finished third in the 3.1-mile race with a time of 20 minutes, 19 seconds.

The junior finished second in the Northern 3A Regional Championships and won the Lowry Invitational at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course.

The first team included South Tahoe’s, Carissa Buchholz, who won the 3A state championship this year.

The remainder of the team was comprised of Rheanna Fallini-Jackson (Carson), Jazmin Feliz (Desert Pines), Alexis Gorrier (Centennial), Ellen Hirsberg (The Meadows), Alexis Melendrez (Spanish Springs), Marena Middleton (Damonte Ranch), Imogen Olvera (McQueen), Eliana Ornelas (Wooster), Claire Rawlins (Coronado) and Penelope Smerdon (Reno).

The Coach of the Year was North Tahoe’s Warren Mills. Mills guided the Lakers to their fourth consecutive girls state title, his 11th as the school’s head coach.

Mills also led North Tahoe’s boys to the state title, his 21st as the boys coach.

The second team included Sarriah Brown (Sierra Vista), Myna Buckley (Foothill), Carly Davis (Truckee), Kili Lehmkuhl (North Tahoe), Kloe Littleman (Centennial), Kendra Lusk (Spring Creek), Rylie Lusk (Spring Creek), McKenzie Morgan (Centennial), Nayeli Petera-Barco (Desert Pines), Emilia Puskas (Bishop Gorman), Erika Robtoy (Reed) and Claire Tillett (Reed).

On the boys side, Lowry junior Will Kracaw was named to the honorable mention team. Kracaw finished seventh at the 3A state championships this past November with a time of 17:57.

The first-team selections for the boys included Omar Aguilar-Espinoza (Silverado), Milton Amezcua (Green Valley), Noah Ayala (Arbor View) William Fallini-Haas (Spring Creek), Matthew Hakin (Spanish Springs), Daniel Horner (Spanish Springs), Jared Marchegger (Sierra Lutheran) Montana Montgomery (Truckee), Conner Nicholas (Desert Oasis), Andrew Riberio (Spanish Springs), Aric Turner (Damonte Ranch) and Keith Williams (Arbor View).

Spanish Springs’ Rhonda Beadell was the boys Coach of the Year.
