Tuesday shooting rocks Lovelock

The Lovelock community is in a state of shock this week after a local resident was allegedly shot in the head by her husband. The adult female is in treatment for life-threatening injuries at a Reno hospital while her husband is deceased due to an apparently self-inflicted gunshot according to city police.

In a press release issued late Tuesday afternoon, Lovelock City Police Chief Michael Mancebo said Pershing County Dispatch received emergency calls shortly before 7 a. m. on Tuesday to report the sound of gunshots in the 14th Street and Cornell Avenue area at the north end of Lovelock.

“At least one caller advised that a woman appeared to be injured and that an adult male, matching the description of the woman's husband, was seen driving away at a high speed,” according to the release.

City police and Sheriff's deputies located the injured adult female in a parking lot with a gunshot wound to the head. She received emergency medical treatment then was flown by a Care-flight helicopter to a Reno medical facility where she underwent surgery according to Sheriff Jerry Allen.

The Pershing County S.W.A.T. Team and officers from multiple law enforcement agencies converged on the home of the suspect. A search warrant was issued, law enforcement entered the home and the body of a deceased male matching the suspect description was found according to the press release.

The victim's medical condition remained unknown on Tuesday afternoon and the circumstances that may have led to the shooting remain under investigation by police according to the press statement.

The identification of the victim and suspect were withheld by police pending notification of family.
