The Sixth Judicial District Court's Adult Drug Court programs awarded $975,000 over three years to enhance and expand treatment services

LOVELOCK - The Sixth Judicial District Court's Adult Drug Court Program was notified Oct. 3 that it was the recipient of a $975,000 grant to improve and expand services.

The grant, issued by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, was awarded based on a highly competitive process that ranks hundreds of applications from across the country.

The Sixth Judicial District was one of only 52 sites awarded. The funding from the grant will expand and enhance the drug court services by improving access to needed services such as substance abuse and mental health treatment, educational and vocational opportunities, assistance with jobs, and support for individuals and families suffering from untreated trauma that often leads to substance abuse.

The overwhelming need for services in rural areas provides justification for why Nevada was chosen as a grantee, according to Judge Michael Montero. The area served by the grant has realized rapid expansion in mining activities, an increase in population and a sharp increase in dependence on opiates, particularly prescription drugs and methamphetamine.

Humboldt County's Drug Court Team is led by Judge Montero and is made up of multiple community partners including the Humboldt County District Attorney's Office, the Public Defender, Division of Parole and Probation, Winnemucca Mental Health Center, New Frontier Treatment Center, Job Opportunities of Nevada and others.
