Oregon couple killed in roll-over crash on SR140

OROVADA - An Eagle Point, Ore., couple were killed in a single vehicle roll-over crash Sunday on SR140 about 59 miles southwest of Orovada, the Nevada Highway Patrol reported.

According to the NHP, at around 3:30 p.m., a 2005 Chevy Avalanche pickup was northbound on SR140 when the driver allowed the Chevy to drive off the east roadway edge, where it struck a road marker.

The driver swerved the Chevy to the left causing the vehicle to rotate in a counter-clockwise direction as it crossed the northbound lane. The vehicle entered the southbound lane where the driver steered right causing the Chevy to rotate clockwise. The Chevy, while in the middle of the roadway, overturned. The vehicle came to rest on its wheels in the desert east of SR140.

The driver, who was 16 years old, was transported by Care Flight to Renown Hospital in Reno with serious injuries. The passenger, Milissa May, 19, was transported to Renown Hospital via Care Flight with serious injuries. Kendall May, 49, was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident but sustained fatal injuries, the NHP said. Rebecca May, 46, was wearing a seat belt improperly and was ejected from the vehicle. She also sustained fatal injuries, the NHP said. The two teenagers were also wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
