Central Nevada water authorities seek applications for voluntary water rights retirements

CARSON CITY — The Central Nevada Regional Water Authority (CNRWA) and Humboldt River Basin Water Authority (HRBWA) were recently granted $15 million to purchase and retire groundwater rights from willing sellers.

Water-efficient landscape training and certification offered by Extension

RENO, Nev. – University of Nevada, Reno Extension invites local green-industry professionals, including landscapers, groundskeepers and nursery workers, to attend the Qualified Water Efficient Landscaper (QWEL) training Nov. 13-15. The free training series will prepare participants to take the certification exam offered Nov. 16 to become certified QWEL professionals.

County officials say partial funding for Grass Valley water treatment facility has been tentatively secured

Finding a successful solution to mitigate high levels of nitrates in Grass Valley (GV) residents’ drinking water caused by a large concentration of septic systems has been of great concern to the Humboldt County Board of Commissioners since the early 1990s, but the process has been lengthy and any viable solution is very expensive. The Board has begun taking a serious look at how to utilize a wastewater treatment facility to combat the nitrates as County officials pursue grant funding.
