The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced the 2024 class of USDA 1890 National Scholars, awarding scholarships to over 90 students. This initiative, aimed at developing a diverse new generation of food and agriculture professionals, is a collaboration between the USDA and the 19 historically Black land-grant universities established under the Second Morrill Act of 1890.

USDA Rural Development Celebrates $27 Million Groundbreaking in Lovelock

LOVELOCK, Nev., Nov. 21, 2023—USDA Rural Development Nevada State Director Lucas Ingvoldstad today celebrated the groundbreaking for a $27 million investment made through the USDA ReConnect Program and awarded to Uprise Fiber to increase internet access in the City of Lovelock. Uprise Fiber will utilize the funding to deploy a Fiber-to-the-Home network that would offer economical and dependable internet to Lovelock residents nearly thousands of times faster than their current internet, which can be insufficient for basic activities such as teleconferencing or streaming.

USDA has rural funding programs available

USDA RD Nevada held a Rural Partners Network (RPN) forum focused on bringing together rural communities and targeted federal and civic partners. This event, called the Rural Partners Network Federal Partners Forum, was among the first of its kind in the nation. Speaking at the event were Assistant to the President Neera Tanden, RPN Executive Director Lee Jones, Rural Utilities Service Administrator Andy Berke, as well as USDA Nevada Rural Development State Director Lucas Ingvoldstad.

USDA to begin Issuing $1.75 billion to agricultural producers through critical emergency relief programs

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced that it will begin issuing more than $1.75 billion in emergency relief payments to eligible farmers and livestock producers. These much-needed payments are helping farming and ranching operations recover following natural disasters in 2020, 2021 and 2022.
