GOED names five companies that will receive tax abatements, expected to create hundreds of jobs

CARSON CITY, Nev. – The Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development has approved five companies that will receive $66,606,731 in tax abatements. In return, these companies are projected to create 152 jobs in the next two years at an average hourly wage of $29.72. That figure is expected to rise to 298 jobs in five years. Additionally, these companies will make a capital equipment investment of $1,039,838,428 and generate $308,224,623 in new tax revenues over the 10-year abatement period.

Following an early-stage cervical cancer diagnosis, Reno resident Michelle Craig struggled to repay debt accrued from surgery to remove her uterus earlier this year. During public testimony to state officials on Monday, Craig said that she purchased a plan through the state’s health insurance marketplace, which offers coverage for eligible Nevadans not insured by an employer, Medicaid or Medicare (government programs for those with low incomes, a disability or who are 65 or older). She said she faces an array of cost-prohibitive, high-deductible plans that require $9,000 in annual premiums and a $17,000 deductible for her three-person family.

A toddler in Las Vegas was hospitalized in critical condition after finding a gun on a day care playground that had been discarded by a teenager who was fleeing after opening fire on a city bus, authorities announced Friday.
