Nevada's senators at odds with Biden administration over mining proposals

It was a busy week on Capitol Hill, between Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) announcing an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden and the House unable to pass any spending bills as the government barrels toward a shutdown. Amid all the chaos, the Biden administration released a much-anticipated report with mining reform suggestions. But if Nevada’s two senators’ reactions are any indication, moving forward will be a slippery slope.

County braces for massive lithium mine

Winnemucca, a town of more than 8,600 residents off Interstate-80 in Northern Nevada, is proud of its reputation as a great place to raise a family and cheer for the Lowry High Buckaroos athletic teams. It's also billed as the "Friendliest Town in Nevada" by Travel Nevada. That, however, has not led to people flocking to live there, as growth has remained steady in number.

BLM begins public scoping for Robertson Mine Project

BATTLE MOUNTAIN — The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Battle Mountain District, Mount Lewis Field Office announced its intent to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement for the proposed Robertson Mine Project and will be conducting two public scoping meetings. The meetings will be held online on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2023, at 2 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time and Friday, Sept. 1, 2023, at 5 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time.
