Roy T Barnes was born on July 16th, 1953, to Thomas and Hilma Barnes in Jackson Michigan.
He spent his childhood in the house his dad built, with his older brother, Doug.
They didn’t have indoor plumbing until he was in high school, and used, in his words, the two-seater outside.
He worked at the YMCA and spent a lot of his time boating, swimming, and picking potatoes for 10 cents a bushel.
He graduated from East Jackson High in 1971.
He joined the Army right out of high school. In the Army, he went to Oklahoma, Texas, and managed to find himself in Utah, where he met Noel, fell in love with her and her three kids, Amy, Stacey, and Andy.
They married in December in 1979, and his daughter, Nykky was born in April of 1980. Noel tragically died in February of 1983. Roy raised Nykky alone.
Fate took Roy to Nevada in 1988, and in 1989 he made Winnemucca his home.
He worked for the City of Winnemucca for 35 years. In 1992, Roy turned 39.
He refused to turn 40, and all the years following, he would celebrate the anniversary of his 39th birthday with his best friends Jaime and Sarisa Saho Oey, and their dog, Stymie Fetchit.
He was involved in the Vietnam Veterans of America, and the Oddfellows. Around this time, he met Tracy, and the fell in love again.
Tracy brought Vanessa into the family, and in 1996, Roy had a son, Alex. Tracy and Roy decided to part ways, and Roy raised Alex.
He loved cribbage, the Dallas Cowboys, his country, old rock and roll music, and being right.
Old Westerns, history, crunchy peanut butter, and his faithful dog.
He loved camping, Canadian blend whisky, funny T shirts, the Beatles, and the Muppets.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Hilma Barnes, his sister-in-law Kappy, and his wife, Noel.
He is survived by his brother, Doug (Sharon), his daughter Nykky* (Dave*), and his son Alex* (Jinx*). His grandchildren Trystyn, Travis, Casey, David, Kian, and Kaiya. His great-grandchildren Orion, Jupiter, and Iroh.
A celebration of his life will be held at Raven’s Tavern on March 16th, 2025 from 11am-1pm. He will be laid to rest next to his family in Michigan later this year.
