Joel Carlson

November 7, 1944 - June 8, 2025

Joel Carlson, Age 80, of Winnemucca, NV passed away on June 8, 2025, at Humboldt General Hospital in Winnemucca, NV.
Joel was born to Andrew and Elsie Carlson on November 7th 1944, in Philadelphia, PA.

Late in the summer of 1964, Joel married the love of his life Kathy, on September 5th 1964, following his graduation with an AA in Animal Husbandry.
They had a good 60 years together, while Joel made a career in the cattle ranch industry in California and Nevada.
Joel and Kathy raised their family (Sandy, Joel, and Jennifer) in Northern California. Later in life Joel settled in Winnemucca where he continued his Cowboy lifestyle and enjoyed the last several years of his life.
When his kids were in 4-H, he was the horse leader, and would haul the kids' horses to shows.
One of Joel's best memories was when all the kids and his wife Kathy were there to gather and brand. He would always say, “ I have the best crew.”
Joel was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Winnemucca, NV where he attended weekly services and the last few years weekly catholic mass on TV.
He also enjoyed other activities such as making mohair cinches, spending time with his close and extended family, working and training horses, watching rodeos and especially Gunsmoke.
Joel is survived by: his wife Kathy, children; Sandy of Winnemucca, NV, Joel Jr. of Florence, AZ, Jennifer of Sun Valley, NV, Son-in-Law; Nick of Sun Valley, NV.
Joel is preceded in death by: His parents: Andrew and Elsie Carlson, grandparents: Andrew H. Carlson, and Bessie Ellen Carlson and brother: Drew Carlson.
We would like to sincerely thank HGH, Holly, RN., Dr. Musick, the CNA Staff, and Kailynn at Sonoma Funeral Home for taking care of our beloved Joel Carlson, before and after his passing.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
