S, Jean Ricks Choate

July 7, 1931 - January 6, 2025

S. Jean Ricks Choate passed away on January 6, 2025, at her home in Winnemucca.
She was 93 years old. Born on July 7, 1931, in Campbell, Missouri to Shirley John and Evelyn Carter Ricks.
She graduated from Campbell High School and moved to Lansing, Michigan where she met the love of her life, Johnnie F. Choate.
They moved back to Arkansas after knowing each other for only three weeks and they got married on December 26, 1950.
Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where Johnnie was employed by Southwest Gas in 1955 and in 1962, they moved to Winnemucca, Nevada where Johnnie took a job to run the pipeline for Southwest Gas.
Jean was a homemaker. They had 5 of their own children and were foster parents to several foster children.
Finally adopting their last foster child. In 1970, when all her kids had started school, she start driving the school bus.
She did many sports trips and maintained her Jungo Road Route until 1997 when she retired.
She was a member of the Assembly of God Church for many years and later attended the Baptist Church.
She enjoyed crocheting, watching game shows, fishing and traveling. She loved spending time with her family whenever she could.
She is survived by her sister, Pat Sherrill, her daughters, Evelyn Irene Kenney and Carol Higley. Her daughters-in -law, Sue Choate and Debbie Choate and her son-in-law, Don Brickey.
Grandchildren, Jeanna (Rob) Canham, K.C. Choate, John (Jen) Kenney, Dawn (Robert) Jinzo, Everett Choate, Chris (Vanessa) Higley and David Higley.
Her great-grandchildren, Jacob and Alexis Canham, T.J., Caleb and Ashlin Kenney, Michael (Yesenia) Isbell, Takala Larece, Waylon Garfield, Jimmy and Joe Choate, Trystyn Golightly, Tiffany and Tara Higley and Alex French.
As well as her great-great-grandchildren, Jose, Danielle Isbell, Iroh Jacobson, Liam and Kaden Garfield, Joshua and Wendell Thunderhorse. And numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Johnnie Choate, her brothers, Bill Ricks and Ted Ricks and her sister Maurine Dills.
Her children, Ricky, Richard, James Daniel Choate and Dee Dee Brickey. Her son-in-law, Greg Higley. Her grandchildren Jimmy Choate, Timmy Kenney, Tommy Higley and her great-grandson, Kolby Canham.
