Carl Edward O’Dell passed away on January 28, 2025, in Winnemucca, Nevada.
He was born on December 6, 1940, in Ely, Nevada to Carl Edward O’Dell Sr and Emma Irene O’Dell.
He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and served one tour of duty. He earned a two-year degree as a diesel mechanic.
He worked at Barrick Mine and Crane Services in Elko, Nevada. He moved to Winnemucca in 1993 and worked at Newmont until he retired.
Carl married Janell Denny on April 20, 1996. He had two of his own children, Vance and Valerie and one stepchild, Gabrielle.
He loved exploring the outdoors, driving off road anywhere and camping and fishing.
He especially loved fixing anything that had an engine or a motor.
Carl was retired for 2 years before he went back to work. He worked for several more years for Big G Construction.
The owner, George Miller and his wife, Jackie, became good friends with Carl and Janell. He loved working for George and wanted to go back to work although he was physically unable to.
He is survived by his wife, Janell Denny O’Dell. His children, Vance O’Dell and Valerie O’Dell and stepdaughter, Gabrielle (James) Simonsen.
His grandchildren, Shane, Thorn, Quinn, Jennalee, and Julianne. He is also survived by his sisters Faye Barnes and Karen Workman.
He is preceded in death by his father, Carl Edward O’Dell Sr, his mother, Emma Workman and stepfather, Farrel Workman.
As well as his brother, Denny Workman and sister, Vana Workman.
Janell would like to thank the nurses and CNAs that gave care and compassion while Carl was in the hospital.
As well as Dr. Musick, Dr. Church and Dr. Perry for giving exceptional care. His stays at Humboldt General Hospital were made better by the care he was given.
Special thanks to our neighbors, Dean and Ambosio for coming over at a moment’s notice to help Carl.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
