Frank D. Riha

March 14, 1926 - November 6, 2024

In Loving Memory of Frank D. Riha

It is with deep sorrow and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Frank D. Riha, who left this world on November 6, 2024, at the age of ninety-eight.
Wife Lois (Serfling) Riha (deceased). Son Douglas (deceased), daughters Kathy (deceased), Randi, and Nancy.
Sisters Mary Trout, Rosie Marcuerquiaga, Libby Clark, and Betty Peck.
Half-brothers Pete, John, and half-sister Josephine.
Frank was born on March 14, 1926, in Idaho.
The family moved to Winnemucca, then Unionville, eventually settling in Lovelock, NV.
After graduating from high school, Frank enlisted in the Marines and did his training at Camp Pendleton in San Diego.
After his basic training he was deployed to Pavuvu (Solomon Islands) and then to Okinawa, Japan where he saw combat and suffered several injuries.
Frank was featured in the Library of Congress Veterans History Project (loc.gov/vets).
I highly recommend watching him recount tales of his time in the Marines.
Not only do you get a sense of what it was like to see combat during World War II, but you also get to see Frank as he was.
He was a very well-spoken man, and an excellent storyteller.
After his time in the Marines, he studied accounting in Colorado. Eventually, he moved to Southern California and worked as the comptroller for the city of Burbank.
During the 50’s, Frank was severely injured in a car crash.
While he was recuperating from his injuries, he met his future wife Lois. At the time, Lois was a teacher at Pershing County High School.
Frank did not always have an easy life. He grew up with four intelligent, opinionated sisters. How easy could it be?
Through the many hardships in his life, he remained one of the most intelligent, interesting people you could ever meet.
Somehow, he persevered through his early hardships, had a successful career, and was a loving family man.
Humble, hardworking, intelligent.
Frank was somebody to admire and is greatly missed by family and friends.
There was truly nobody else like him.
