Tyus Rei Malverson

On the morning of Monday, April 14, Tyus Rei Halverson of Lovelock, NV completed his 18 year mission to bring love and happiness into this world. While Tyus’s time with us was tragically short, he managed in the time we shared with him to live a life that was filled with profound significance to all who knew him. From Tyus’s very first day on this Earth, he demonstrated tremendous resolve in the face of unimaginable adversity. Born with Trisomy 21 (Down Syndrome) and numerous other associated health issues, Tyus’s life was filled with regular hospitalizations and challenges that would test even the strongest spirit. Even in the toughest of times, Tyus’s positivity never wavered. Throughout his life, Tyus was able to brighten any room with his infectious smile, his incredible hugs or simply by giving “knucks.” Tyus’s love of mischief and sense of humor was infectious, and his laugh was …

Randall Gordon Mahon

April 28, 1962 - April 9, 2025 Battle Mountain, NV Randall “Randy” Gordon Mahon, beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away on April 9, 2025, in Sparks, NV at the age of 62. Randy was born on April 28, 1962, in Tehachapi, CA to Gary and Joy Mahon. The son of a railroading family, his early years were spent moving throughout California and Nevada. From ranches to rail towns, deserts to pine-covered hills, Randy developed a lifelong love for the outdoors and the diverse beauty of the West. In school, Randy was known for his athleticism, creativity, and easygoing nature. He excelled in football, track, and woodworking, and spent his free time fishing, hunting, listening to metal and classic rock, and playing guitar. After relocating to Elko, NV in 1979, he met the love of his life, MaryLynn Gonzales. Their bond grew through friendship and laughter, and they were married …

Jessie Iilene (Richardson) George

Jessie Ilene (Richardson) George was born February 11, 1940 to Marion and Jessie Richardson. She grew up in Meeker, Colorado, where she met and married the love of her life, Thomas George on June 18, 1960. Ilene followed Tom throughout his teaching career beginning in Fairplay, Colorado, followed by Bancroft, Idaho, before settling in Winnemucca, Nevada in 1971, where they raised 5 kids and enjoyed traveling with not only their own kids, but all the FFA students that were such a large part of their lives. Ilene stayed at home while her children were young until the youngest was in school full time. She then went to work at Sonoma Heights Elementary until she and Tom retired together in 2002. John Charles "Jack" Cooney Jr.

January 3, 1945– April 3, 2025 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John Charles “Jack” Cooney, Jr., our beloved father, who passed away on April 3, 2025, at the age of 80. He was born in Lovelock, Nevada, on January 3, 1945, a place he called home his entire life. After graduating from Pershing County High School in 1963, he joined the Army and served in Thailand during the Vietnam War. When his service was completed, he returned to Lovelock and worked as an equipment operator for several companies, including Cooney Enterprise Mining, Eagle Picher, and Coeur Rochester. Jack was also a loyal community member, serving as a volunteer firefighter and a member of the search and rescue. Jack was passionate about racing and trap shooting. He could always be found at the trap club or racetrack, whether competing or lending a helping hand. After …

Sherlyn “Sherri” Jo Meadors passed away on March 23, 2025, at the age of 62, at her home in Battle Mountain, Nevada. Sherri was born on August 8, 1962, in Chandler Arizona to Conrad Heavilin and Barbara Holliday. After graduating from Grand Valley High School in 1980, in Parachute Colorado, she married her first husband, Russ Mcquiston and had two daughters. She met her current husband, Michael Meadors, in 1994 and was married in 2004. During these years they traveled across the USA laying gas pipeline. After retiring they decided to make Nevada their home, where she enjoyed hobbies such as camping and fishing. She also loved to watch movies, listen to music and dance to the beat. Mary (Riha) Trout

In Loving Memory of Mary (Riha) Trout Mary (Riha) Trout left us peacefully on October 24, 2024. Mary was born in Idaho on September 30, 1924. The family moved to Winnemucca, then Unionville, eventually settling in Lovelock, NV. After graduating from high school, Mary enlisted in the WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service), a reserve unit of the U. S. Navy. Eventually, Mary settled in Southern California and had a career working for the Bank of America. Mary was a loving spouse to (Wallace) Red Trout, and a devoted parent to sons Ed and Denny, and daughter Donna. Mary’s adult life always seemed to be a complete contrast to her childhood. It was a tough life, but through perseverance and hard work, she became the wonderful person that she was. I always remember her as being so sophisticated. Frank D. Riha

In Loving Memory of Frank D. Riha It is with deep sorrow and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Frank D. Riha, who left this world on November 6, 2024, at the age of ninety-eight. Wife Lois (Serfling) Riha (deceased). Son Douglas (deceased), daughters Kathy (deceased), Randi, and Nancy. Sisters Mary Trout, Rosie Marcuerquiaga, Libby Clark, and Betty Peck. Half-brothers Pete, John, and half-sister Josephine. Frank was born on March 14, 1926, in Idaho. The family moved to Winnemucca, then Unionville, eventually settling in Lovelock, NV. After graduating from high school, Frank enlisted in the Marines and did his training at Camp Pendleton in San Diego. After his basic training he was deployed to Pavuvu (Solomon Islands) and then to Okinawa, Japan where he saw combat and suffered several injuries. Marlene Shier

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marlene Shier, age 68, at her home in Winnemucca, NV, on April 1, 2025. The only daughter of Robert and Loa Long, she was born in Lovelock, NV on Jan. 18, 1957. In her youth, she was very active in Girl Scouts and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. From her mother and grandmother she developed a life-long love of quilting. As a young adult she earned a bachelor's in Forestry. She loved the outdoors, enjoying the views of Mt. Tobin from her garden and the quiet sounds of country life. She served on the Nevada Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee for many years. With her first husband, she had a daughter, Loanna Conley. After their divorce, she moved back to her hometown, where she met her second husband, Craig Shier. Richard "Rick" McCallum

Richard “Rick” McCallum passed away on March 29, 2025, at his home in Winnemucca, Nevada. He was born on September 6, 1951, to Marceline Garcia and Warren McCallum in Watsonville, California. He grew up in the Watsonville area with his family until 1962. The family then moved to Florida, where they would stay for 7 years and finally made their way back to Watsonville, where he graduated from Watsonville High School with the Class of 1970. He worked in auto parts sales throughout his life. In 1987, while working at a Chevy Dealership, he met the love of his life, Cathy. They shared many years together and were together until the end. He and Cathy moved to Winnemucca, Nevada in 2008 to help out his parents. There he started working in Casinos, working on the floor and bartending. Donald Alden Park Jr.

Donald Alden Park Jr was 69 years old, a resident of Battle Mountain, NV passed away on March 19th, 2025. Don was born August 7th, 1955 in Taunton, MA. He was a loving father to his three children Jessica Dyk, Rebecca Park, and Mathew Park and grandfather to Arabella Park and Wilder Dyk. Don spent his life working hard for his family and caring for others. Throughout the years he has had many adventures traveling to many different places where he has made many friends. Don enjoyed traveling, visiting with friends and family, and working in his gardens, especially when his grandkids came to help. He severed six years in the marine corp. Lile Filbin

Born in Santa Ana, California on September 22, 1944. Lile grew up in Laguna Beach, California. After graduating high school, she attended college at Cal Poly Tech in San Luis Obispo, California. While attending Cal Poly, she met her husband of 60 years, Tom Filbin. Lile passed away in Flatonia, Texas on March 31, 2025. Lile and Tom had six children. Theresa (Jerry) LeRoy, Molly Filbin, Katie Temby, Stacy (Thomas) Voges, Jacque (Larry) Snyder and Pat (Mary) Filbin. She was also blessed with fourteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Lile’s surviving siblings are Curt Harmer, Cam Wood, Carl Klass and Naliko Stewart. Lile and Tom moved to Nevada in 1981 with five of their children and ran the IL sheep ranch for about 20 years in Pumpernickel Valley. Jeannie Faye Daugherty

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Aunt Jeannie Faye Daugherty. Jeannie was born April 7th, 1951. She went home to our Heavenly Father March 20, 2025. Jeannie was quite the character. She was famous in our little hometown of Lovelock for her quotes “Rainbow!”, “Carry-on!”, “There it is!”. She was always eager to lend a helping hand to anyone in need or a wise crack from her unique sense of humor. She was a search and rescue volunteer for several years. She loved riding her horse Nickelbay along with her two donkeys. She loved being outdoors and spending time with her family and life partner Terry. Mercede Maria Mary Marcucci Starr

Mercede Maria “Mary” Marcucci Starr, age 105, passed away on March 29, 2025 in Lovelock. She was born in Ogden, UT on November 19, 1919 to Alexandor and Theresa Neri Marcucci. She moved to Battle Mountain, NV in 1925 and then on to Lovelock in 1929. Mercede started Little League Mothers and was a charter member of the Lovelock DeMolay Mothers. She was past president of Beta Sigma Phi and Exampler; member of BPW and Soroptomists Mercede serviced in the Navy Waves during World War 2. She married Larry Starr in 1941. Together they started the Red Pepper Drill Team, which won many awards and marched in the Portlan Oregon Rose Parade. She was Secretary Treasurer and Bookkeeper for the R. Larry Starr Construction Company; Starrs and & Sons ready mix and 3 Bars Ranch and Cattle. She raised money for the first ever football sign for Lovelock High School. …
