Our mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, community pie maker and friend, Dorothea Ellen Knight (Hunter), passed away unexpectedly Monday morning August 26, 2024.
Ellen was born on May 10, 1952 to Charles and Ruth Hunter of Cottage Grove, Oregon.
She was the fourth child of eight in a home filled with love and music. Often her father would play his guitar to the delight of his family while they would sing and dance.
Ellen was blessed with a creative mind and it showed in her artwork, in her cooking and many other ways.
Her childhood home was a home of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ with a constant desire to work hard and compassionately serve others.
Ellen graduated from the original Cottage Grove High School with the class of 1970 and then attended Ricks College where she met her sweetheart who she would eventually wed.
She graduated with honors earning her Associates of Arts degree in 1972. Ellen continued her course of study at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
On June 12, 1973 Ellen married David Knight in the Manti Temple.
Ellen and David’s life together began in a small farm house just outside Burley, Idaho, where they would welcome their first son.
Subsequent children would be brought home to Northern Nevada, the second in Unionville and the remaining five to Lovelock, where Ellen resided for the remainder of her life.
She was a homemaker, mother, Cub Scout den leader, 4-H instructor, held many positions in her church and enjoyed participating in her community and church choirs.
Ellen always had a love for nature and could often be found outside tending to her animals and garden where she taught her children to love and care for nature as well.
Ellen was known for her cheerful and laid-back personality.
She showed patience, intelligence, positivity and spirituality in her interactions with people.
A love of and talent for music and art were reflected in her choices in hobbies and education. She will always be remembered for her service to others in her family, the Church, friends, neighbors and even strangers.
Ellen is survived by her children: Ammon (Beth) Knight, Seth (Ila) Knight, Ruth Knight, Hiram (Ashley) Knight, Ephraim Knight, Abram (Lauren) Knight and Lydia (Tim) Dahle, her 24 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild with more to come.
Her siblings: Wanda Hunter, Luella Hansen, Venessa (Bob) Pitman, Charles (Nancy) Hunter, Mary (Wayne) Clark, Barbara (Denis) Elton and Christie (Parke) Stentzel and many nieces and nephews.
Ellen was preceded in death by her parents: Charles Gilbert Hunter and Ruth Evelyn (Rowlett) Hunter and husband: Robert David Knight.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on September 7, 2024 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 220 Maple Drive, Lovelock, Nevada.
