Clarence William Yancy

Clarence William Yancy, 84, passed away on Sept. 22, 2024, in Reno, NV. Clarence was born on Oct. 28, 1939, in Illinois, and was the only child to Oliver Lyons Yancy and Nancy Mae Tinsley Yancy. Before the age of 4, his family moved to Klamath Falls, OR. On June 22, 1963, Clarence married Michelle Adele McCarcy in Carmel, CA. They eventually settled in Oakland, CA. Clarence and Michelle had 4 children: Pamela Lynn, Phillip William, Deborah Anne and Danielle Alice. In 1967, Clarence and Michelle were baptized as Jehovah’s Witnesses. From that time on, their lives revolved around their faith and hope for the future. Clarence worked for the Oakland Unified School District until he retired. In 2001, Clarence and Michelle packed up and moved from California to Lovelock, NV, where they resided until their deaths. Joseph Dean "Jody" Rosevear

Joseph Dean “Jody” Rosevear passed on August 19, 2024 at age 60 in his beloved Northern Nevada following a long struggle with brain cancer. Joe was born in Winnemucca, Nevada to Robert “Bob” Rosevear and Judi Kinnard on October 4, 1963. Joe is survived by his father, sister Heather Rosevear, daughter Amelia Rosevear, former wife Ann Setty-Rosevear, uncle Jim Kinnard, nieces Amanda, Lauren and Jaqueline, nephew JT Pete, and many cherished great-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Joe was preceded in death by his grandparents, Walter and Julia Case and Joe and Shirley Kinnard, his mother, Judi, and his sons. Joe spent his early years in Winnemucca, often at the side (or sometimes the wrong side) of his cherished grandmother, Julia. He was proud of his family’s Basque roots beginning in the 1880s in McDermitt, Nevada. Joe attributed much of his love of the ranching, hunting and Basque cultures of …

David Lee Ramey

July 12, 1972 – October 6, 2024 David passed away on October 6, 2024, at RENOWN Medical Center in Reno, Nevada. David was born on July 12, 1972, in Mountain Home, Idaho to Roy Junior Ramey and Pamela Kay (Fletcher) McCune. He grew up in Middleton, Idaho and later resided in Elko, Nevada, finally making his home in Winnemucca until the time of his passing. David worked as the Slot Manager at Winners Casino. David was born as a twin to his sister Donna Ramey-Birch, his older sister LaRae Spencer, older brother Carl Ramey, and his younger brother John Ramey. During David’s teen years he attended Middleton High School where he graduated in May 1990. Beverly Asher

Beverly Asher, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2024, at the age of 92, surrounded by her loving daughters. Born in Roberts, Idaho, on June 5, 1932, Beverly lived a life full of love, art, and family. She met the love of her life, M.E. "Mac" Asher, in Ketchum, Idaho. Together, they built a life rich with joy, eventually settling in Winnemucca, Nevada, where they raised their family. Mac preceded her in death, but Beverly’s love and devotion to him remained steadfast. Beverly was the beloved mother of J’lianne White, Jo Ellen “Jodi” Ritter (Marv), Julie Corbett (Tony), Joy Asher (Tim Keogh), and the late Mervyn “Merv” Asher (Gloria). She cherished her role as a grandmother to 14 grandchildren and a great-grandmother to 24 great-grandchildren, with one more soon to join the family. DAmon Edan Stein

Damon Edan Stein passed away on September 30, 2024, at his home in Winnemucca, Nevada. He was born on March 7, 1975, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was the oldest of six children. He grew up in Albuquerque and graduated from Eldorado High School in 1993. He worked for California Industrial Rubber for 4 years as a conveyor vulcanizing technician. He moved to Winnemucca when he was 29 years old and made it his home. He worked for Nevada Gold Mines as a heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed hunting, bodybuilding, fishing, rafting and fatherhood. He had an infectious laugh and disarming smile. Damon was a very kindhearted man that would help anyone that he could. Most of all he cared about his friends, family, and the great outdoors. John M. Doyle

June 29, 1941- September 23, 2024 Born in Reno, Nevada to Virginia and Donald (Mickey) Doyle, John attended Southside Elementary and Northside Junior High Schools. He grew up fishing the Truckee River, hunting ducks and pheasants around the Truckee Meadows, skiing at Sky Tavern and Mount Rose, and playing baseball- participating in the first Little League game played in Nevada. He always said that the Reno of his youth was perhaps the best place at the best time there ever was; a claim that has yet to be disproved. John graduated from Reno High School in 1959, participating in athletics and Boys State. He continued on to the University of Nevada, graduating in 1963. He was president of the Sundowners and would happily remind people that the Sundowners had the highest cumulative GPA of all the fraternal organizations- in addition to having the most fun. Uriel P Castellanos

Uriel P. Castellanos, age 78, of Winnemucca, Nevada passed away on Monday, September 23, 2024, in San Diego, California. Uriel was born in Trojes, Michoacan, Mexico on May 18, 1946. Throughout his youth, he worked with his family farming their land and raising cattle. He was a member of the International Federation of Agricultural Producers and the National Military Service before emigrating to the United States in the late 1960s. His first work in the United States was as a field hand in California. Soon thereafter he secured a job as a ranch hand on the Bengoa family's Kings River Ranch in Orovada, Nevada. During his time working with the Bengoas, he would come to Winnemucca once a month on payday for some weekend rest and relaxation. During one of those weekends, in December 1972, he was having dinner at the Star Broiler where he met the hostess, Maria Hernández. …

Judith Laverne Legarza

Judith Laverne Legarza passed away on September 22, 2024, in Reno, Nevada at the age of 75. She was born on February 10, 1949, in Fallon, Nevada to Anthony and Alice Amaral. Judith graduated high school and pursued higher education in Analytical Chemistry. She used this schooling in her work at the Labs in the Gold Mines. She worked in mines in Gabbs, Nevada and Battle Mountain, Nevada. Judith married George Legarza on June 13, 1970. The two shared 55 years together and 2 children, Tammy and Kenneth. Judith also did a one-year home study course in painting. She enjoyed painting a lot and was an amazing artist. She also enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, trap shooting and water skiing. Alfred Jesse Swett

Alfred Jesse Swett born April 3rd, 1960 passed away peacefully in his home with his wife by his side on August 27th, 2024. Alfred was born and raised in Winnemucca, NV to Alvin and Sharon Swett. He graduated from Albert Lowry High School in 1978. Alfred joined the BLM in 1987 and fought many fires. After the BLM he got a job working for the gold mines at Hycroft. He then got his CDL and started his 2nd passion of being a truck driver. In 2012 Alfred met the love of his life Robin Henry and the two started a new life in Jordan Valley. Robin ran the Basque Inn for a few years then moved to Homedale, ID where Al worked for Najavo Trucking. In 2017 they moved to their dream home in Huntington, OR.
