1937-2024
Darrell Blake Jones, Sr., 87, peacefully passed away at his home in Mona, Utah with his wife, son-in-law, and dog by his side on the morning of November 14, 2024.
Darrell was born June 25, 1937 in Long Beach, California to Kenneth William Jones and Mildred Ethel Redding.
Darrell spent his childhood and early adult life in southern California, but later moved to Winnemucca, Nevada after a friend told him how great it was.
Darrell loved Winnemucca and lived there for over 50 years.
Darrell met and married Dorothy Sawyer, the “most beautiful woman” he’d ever seen, on July 13, 1985.
Darrell was independent and hard-working his entire life and did lots of things including; working for Hughes Aircraft, managing a grocery store, owning a gas station, and working for Sierra Pacific (NV Energy) for 20 years from which he retired.
After his “retirement”, he worked another 17 years for Crawford farms driving a swather.
Darrell’s hobbies included hunting and fishing, reloading ammunition, and playing softball with his friends. Darrell also loved Corvettes and the Chicago Cubs.
Throughout his life Darrell made many friends. No matter where Darrell and Dorothy lived, their home was always open to friends and family, whether it was a short or long stay.
Darrell was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
He loved the gospel and had a strong testimony of the Savior Jesus Christ. In 2007, he and his wife served a mission in Cove Fort, Utah.
Darrell is survived by his wife Dorothy, daughter Debbie (Ron) Snow, daughter-in-law Stephanie Jones, step-daughter Cory (Pat) Shumway, nine grandchildren: Bradley Pellerin, Jeffrey (Heather) Pellerin, Ashley (Brian) Davis, Richard “RJ” Jones, Brandon (Amanda) Jones, Morgan (Michael) Rawle, Patrick Shumway, Spencer Shumway, Taylor Shumway, eight great-grandchildren: Michelle Pellerin, Ty Pellerin, Carson Pellerin, Hayden Pellerin, Leonidas Davis, Jarrod Jones, Kenna Jones, and Wesley Rawle. Darrell is also survived by his beloved dog, Wrigley.
Darrell is preceded in death by his parents, his only sibling and sister, Juanita, and his son Darrell Jones Jr., and his step-son, John Briscoe.
A graveside service will be held on November 20, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Winnemucca Cemetery.
