Joe Street passed away on April 27, 2024, in Winnemucca, Nevada. He had just celebrated his 97th birthday.
He was born in Collinsville, Alabama, and grew up on a farm on Lookout Mountain.
Upon enlisting in the Navy in March of 1944, after boot camp, he was assigned to the USS Hunt Destroyer, where he completed his military service in Pacific Operations during World War II.
He was honorably discharged in April 1946, just shy of his 19th birthday.
During his military travels through the Western US, he became infatuated with the land and decided that he wanted to be a cowboy.
A few years after his military service, he obtained a job on a Texas ranch. For approximately forty years, he was a cowboy on many ranches in various states: Texas, South Dakota, Montana, New Mexico, Arizona, and Nevada. His last ranching job was on the 25 Ranch North of Battle Mountain, Nevada.
His wife, Evelyn Faye Street (born in Alanreed, Texas, and raised in McLean, Texas_, was with him for over 59 years from June 1952 until her passing in August 2011.
Together they raised two sons, David Street and Kelly Street, who both cowboyed alongside their dad and a few years after leaving home.
Joe and Evelyn retired to McLean, Texas and later moved to Winnemucca, Nevada to be close to their sons and their families.
Dad leaves behind his son, David and his wife, Julie who live in Winnemucca, Nevada.
Their son, Christopher Street, and his family from Winnemucca, Nevada. He also leaves behind his son, Kelly and his wife, Kathy who live in Boardman, Oregon.
Their children, Molly Ndoloum and her family from Dallas, Texas; Mike Street and his family from Portland, Oregon; Joe Street and his family from Richland, Washington. He also leaves behind nine great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff at Harmony Manor for providing a home and taking great care of Dad for the past ten years.
We were always amazed by the loving environment they created and maintained for Dad during his final years.
Rest in peace, Dad!
