DeLeah Mae Smith Dory, age 96, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2024, in Winnemucca, Nevada.
A cherished resident of Golconda since 1978, DeLeah’s life was a testament to love, dedication, and the strength of family.
Born on October 4, 1927, in Elko, Nevada, to William H. and Jessie W. Smith, DeLeah grew up alongside her siblings Ralph Randell Smith, Mona Evelyn Reborse, and William Harold Smith Jr. (Doc).
She graduated from Eureka High School in Eureka, Nevada, in 1945, embodying the values of perseverance and community that she carried throughout her life.
On July 1, 1947, DeLeah married Earl Edwin Dory Sr., the love of her life.
Their union, marked by profound devotion and mutual respect, spanned 65 years. Together, they raised two children, Earl Edwin Dory Jr. (Dusty) and Jessie Elaine Bruning.
As a rancher’s wife and homemaker, DeLeah epitomized resilience and grace, balancing the demands of ranch life while creating a nurturing home environment.
Known affectionately as Grandma Dee, she extended her warmth and care to many children, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.
DeLeah’s love for her family, friends, and pets was unwavering. She found joy in tending to her yards, camping, and fishing, activities that brought her closer to nature and her loved ones.
Her spirit of adventure and dedication to family created a legacy of love and togetherness.
DeLeah is survived by her son-in-law Mark Bruning, grandchildren Dorine Dory, Travis Dory (Kristin), Dory Ann Wilson (John), Earl Dory III (Trampus), William Irwin (Kina), and Waylon Vigil; her great-grandchildren Anthony, Amber Mae, Chanci, McKayla, Matthew, Dallas, Alexandria, Issabelle, Emmitt, Peerce, and Dusty; thirteen great-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-great-grandchildren.
Her enduring love and guidance will forever be cherished by those who follow in her footsteps.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Earl Edwin Dory Sr.; her parents, William H. and Jessie W. Smith; her brothers Ralph Randell Smith and William H. Smith Jr. (Doc); her sister, Mona Evelyn Reborse; her children, Earl E. Dory Jr. (Dusty) and Jessie Elaine Bruning and great-granddaughter Sheena Wilson.
Graveside services will be held in Winnemucca on July 18, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., where family and friends will gather to honor DeLeah’s remarkable life.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to everyone at Harmony Manor for their love and care during DeLeah’s final years.
