William "Bill" Robert Crawford

William “Bill” Robert Crawford passed away on July 19, 2024, at the age of 100. Bill was born on June 5, 1924, to John H. Crawford and Mina Lucha Crawford in Winnemucca, Nevada. He attended Winnemucca schools and graduated from Humboldt County High School in 1942. He was drafted to the Air Force and served as a Radar Observer for the 6th Emergency Rescue Squad in Central Burma and China. Upon his discharge from the Service in 1946 he returned to Winnemucca. Bill started his career with the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier. He worked his way up to counter clerk, Assistant Postmaster and finally Postmaster. Bill married the love of his life, Bonnie Hanson-Elliott on June 5, 1949. They raised two children, Becky and Craig. Bill retired from the Post Office in 1979 with 36 years of service. Burletha Jean Price (Blair

May 15 1938 ~ July 16, 2024 Burletha Jean Price (Blair), sometimes called Jeanie, age 86 passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at her daughter’s home in Idaho. She was born in Oil Springs, Kentucky, the daughter of Burlie John and Mollie Love Blair (Witten) and Hazel Blair (Crace). She grew up in Oil Springs, Kentucky, and attended the local school system with her 7 siblings. Later she moved to Marion, Ohio and married Robert William Price. Together they lived in Toledo, Ohio, and Amargosa Valley, Nevada. She lived in Winnemucca, Nevada for over 35 years before living with her daughter and son-in-law in Idaho. When Burletha was a young woman, she worked as a waitress, but most of her working years were at two different mines in Nevada. She was a lab technician for American Borate in Amargosa Valley and the HyCroft Gold Mine in Winnemucca. She …

Dolores Jean Rogers

Dolores Jean Rogers passed away peacefully with her daughters Kathy & Vicky by her side on July 17th 2024. Dolores was 84 years old. Dee resided at Harmony Mannor in Winnemucca, she was born to Charles & Ida Mae Baker on August 3rd, 1939, in Texas. Dee moved to Sacramento in her early adult life where she met Bill, the love of her life. Together they raised Dee’s 4 children Vicky, Sandy, Richard & Kathy. Dee & Bill moved to Montello, NV in 1983; moving away from her home in Sacramento, Ca. Bill & Dee stayed in Montello, Nv till 2006 when Bill passed. Thereafter she moved to Elko, NV so she would be closer to family, eventually settling in Winnemucca for the last 15 years, with her sweet dog Yahtzee who she loved very much. Dee was a housewife and a homemaker, with numerous other jobs over the years. …

Kerri Lynn Bellm Sorenson

June 16th 1976- July 4th 2024 It is with sadness in our hearts that we announce the passing of a loving mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and beautiful friend, Kerri. Kerri passed away suddenly following a brief illness. To know Kerri was to love her and she loved you. Kerri loved to be a mother and had her miracle baby Tucker in 2014. Tucker was a lucky boy to have Kerri as a mother he will miss her dearly. She loved to swim, make jokes and was a very loving, caring person. She will be greatly missed. Kerri is survived by her husband Richard Sorenson, and son Tucker Sorenson, mother and father Gus and Sharon Bellm, brother Kris Bellm, many nieces and nephews, her forever friend Tiffany Webb, and many more friends. A celebration of life will be announced in the future.

Lyle Malone

June 30, 1924 – July 1, 2024 Lyle was born in Twin Falls, ID to Ruth and Loren Malone. He was one of five children and after his eighth-grade year dropped out of school as he was needed on the family farm. On June 28, 1944 Lyle was inducted into the Navy during WWII where he served as a Gunner on the USS Alderbaran, USS South Dakota and SS Sea Runner in the Asiatic Pacific Area. After the War, Lyle married Evelyn Hainline and moved to Toledo, Oregon to work in the timber industry. Daughter Kathy was born in 1947 and the family moved to Filer, Idaho where Lyle farmed with his father. In 1948 their son Ted was born and shortly thereafter Lyle created a road construction company with Ted Leno called L&M Construction. When this partnership dissolved, Lyle continued to run the company on his own. One of …

Karen Louise Thomas

Karen passed away at home, surrounded by loved ones in Winnemucca, NV on July 10th, 2024, after a long battle with COPD. She was born on April 10th, 1966, in Salida, Colorado to parents Ernest and Florence Shehorn. Karen graduated high school in Creede, Colorado in 1984. She married Clayton Thomas on August 25th, 1984, in Creede, Colorado and in September of 1984 they moved out to Brentwood, Ca and had two children, Tiffany and Reece Thomas. They moved to Cobb, Ca in late 1989 where they later had two more children, Melanie and Cody Thomas. In late 2001 the family of 6 moved out to Winnemucca, NV to be closer to Clayton’s sister, Jennifer Wardell and her family. Karen is survived by her Husband of 39 years, Clayton Thomas. Dennis Kurt Wirthlin

1960-2024 Dennis Kurt Wirthlin passed away on July 8, 2024, at Humboldt General Hospital in Winnemucca, Nevada. He was born at Humboldt General Hospital to Lawrence and Cathy (Wilson) Wirthlin on September 7, 1960, the youngest of three sons. Dennis attended Winnemucca schools and graduated from Albert Lowry High School in 1979. Dennis was quite athletic and played basketball all four years of high school as a Lowry Buckaroo. As a young adult, Dennis played City League basketball, baseball, and coached youth sports. Dennis was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Dennis married Wendi Miller in Winnemucca on July 18, 1981. They welcomed two daughters, Heather and Noel, over the next several years. The couple later divorced. Kenneth Gene Hummel

Kenneth Gene Hummel, 62, passed away on June 29, 2024 in Reno, Nevada after a short illness surrounded by his family. Ken was born on November 6, 1961 to Leslie R Hummel and Malissa (June) Key in Winnemucca, Nevada. He was the 5th of 6 children and was raised with his siblings, Sharon, Melvin, Judy, Darren and Kevin in Winnemucca. In his youth he was a Boy Scout, played baseball and basketball and trapped coyotes and cats with his step-father, Jim Murdock and his brothers. He graduated from Albert Lowry High School in 1979. After graduation, he moved to Oregon where he spent a few years working with family members, in construction and on a natural gas pipeline. October 4, 1927 - July 6, 2024 DeLeah Mae Smith Dory, age 96, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2024, in Winnemucca, Nevada. A cherished resident of Golconda since 1978, DeLeah’s life was a testament to love, dedication, and the strength of family. Born on October 4, 1927, in Elko, Nevada, to William H. and Jessie W. Smith, DeLeah grew up alongside her siblings Ralph Randell Smith, Mona Evelyn Reborse, and William Harold Smith Jr. (Doc). She graduated from Eureka High School in Eureka, Nevada, in 1945, embodying the values of perseverance and community that she carried throughout her life. 9/21/1945 – 6/10/2024 Jim Phillips unexpectedly passed away on June 10, 2024. He was born on September 21, 1945, in Midland, Texas to King and Mary Alice Phillips. Jim joined the United States Navy on February 20, 1963, and served 3 years. After being discharged he went to California. Jim married Jo Adkins in Santa Clara, California on June 3, 1973. They were married 34 years until Jo’s passing on December 28, 2006. He and Jo owned a restaurant in California, and then moved to Nevada. He worked in Kings River as a farm hand and then for the mines. After his retirement, he went to work for CB Brown’s in the service department. Jim attended the First Baptist Church and the Winnemucca Christian Fellowship churches while he lived in Winnemucca, he always enjoyed singing during services. Gayla Anderson

December 4, 1937 to June 25, 2024 Gayla Anderson passed away on June 25, 2024 at home surrounded by her loved ones. Gayla was born to Hiram ‘Rex’ and Virginia Rose Martin on December 4, 1937 in Oakley, ID. She was the second eldest daughter with sisters Sally, Linda, Carla, and Nancy. Gayla was raised LDS in Idaho, graduating from Oakley High School before moving down to Winnemucca, NV at the age of 18. Here she married Edward Marcuerquiaga and had three children, Brent, Nancy and Karrie. During her 22 years in Winnemucca, Gayla worked at numerous local businesses including Bliss’s Dress Shop and JB Liquor. She returned to Idaho and worked as a grocery checker at Safeway before heading down to Arizona where she waitressed and lived with her closest friend, Ross Jones. Catherine Ann (Jeanney) Stanford

RENO — Catherine Ann (Jeanney) Stanford, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on May 15, 2024, at age 79. Born in Gulfport, Mississippi, on April 5, 1945, to Robert Louis Jeanney and Angelina (Isola) Jeanney while stationed in the service. Catherine was raised in Winnemucca, Nevada, with two younger brothers, Joe and Bill. She enjoyed the small-town life and the outdoors, a wonderful family, good times, and many friendships. Catherine attended Humboldt High School and graduated in 1963. She was a member of the renowned Buckarettes, worked at the Star Broiler as a hostess, entered and won the Miss Winnemucca pageant and competed in Miss Nevada. After that, Catherine briefly attended UNR, then worked for law offices and the BLM as a secretary. Ruth Ann Jappert passed away on June 1, 2024, in Reno, Nevada. She was born on April 7, 1960, in Klamath Falls, Oregon to James Sr and Flora Young. She married Robert Jappert on September 4, 1982, and the two shared 4 children, Shane, Charity, Elyce and Tim. She enjoyed crafting, spending time with family and friends and loving her cats. John Beck

John Beck passed away on Tuesday the 25th of June 2024. He was at peace at home. He moved from Alaska to Winnemucca, Nevada in 2004. He worked in Battle Mountain with FAA on Radar. He always loved the high desert and retired in Winnemucca, Nevada. He left behind his wife, Penny Gean Beck, his daughter, Christina McGehee and his stepsons, Carlos Garcia and Tony Archer II. He was a very giving man and loved gardening. He supported law enforcement. He will be missed and loved by the people he met. Rest in peace, my love. Penny G dedicates “if you love her like that” by Forest Blakk in his honor, because it reminds her of exactly how she loved John and how he loved her! The family cannot express how grateful they are to HGH ICU for helping so much and Guiding Light Hospice for seeing them through.
