Joe Boggio Jr., age 85, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2023, at Humboldt General Hospital.
He was born on October 20,1938, in Winnemucca, Nevada to Joe and Geraldine Boggio, he was the oldest of their three sons.
Joe lived in Paradise Valley and Winnemucca for his entire life. He graduated from in 1957 from Humboldt County High School and then attended Idaho State College and then Oregon Tech.
Those two schools made him a full-fledged mechanic. He worked for the 96 Stewart Ranch for a short time and the Division of Forestry as a mechanic for another short period of time.
Joe joined the United States Army in 1961. He served in the Motor Pool Division during the time the Berlin Wall went up. He was discharged in 1963.
Joe married Meredith A. Davis on February 10, 1963.
Joe and his brother, Harold married sisters, Meredith and Marcia. The group had a lot of fun together and making memories. Joe and Meredith shared one daughter, Marla.
Joe started working for Meredith’s grandfather, Lloyd, and Meredith’s uncle, Bill, at their drilling company, Wolgamott and Sons.
After a while, Joe took over the company and turned it into LBJ Drilling and Pump Co. – which stood for Lloyd, Bill, and Joe.
Joe was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, the Masonic Lodge, the American Legion, the Koyote Kruisers and the Iron Horse and Machinery Club.
He was a spectacular mechanic and enjoyed tractors and engine repair.
He was an excellent gardener and farmer; he grew the best tasting onions and potatoes, he’d share his onions and potatoes with anyone, and everyone enjoyed.
In addition to farming and gardening, he was a sausage maker. His brothers and him all made sausage... but Joe had the best recipe. Their father would make wine to go with the sausage and then they’d share with everyone.
Fishing was one of his favorite hobbies and spending weekends with his family and friends at the Cabin up Hinkey Summit. He loved playing cards, especially pinochle and solitaire.
Joe is survived by his wife, Meredith A. Boggio.
His daughter, Marla (John) Simmons.
His grandson, Lane Simmons and great-grandchildren, Oaklee and Tuff Simmons.
He is also survived by his brother Harold (Sandra) Boggio and sister-in-law, Marcia Medeiros, and his nephews Robert (Donna) Boggio, Eric (Brenda) Boggio and Marc Medieros and his great-nieces and great- nephews, Jessica, Megan, BreeAnna and Cody.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Geraldine Boggio, his grandparents, Harold Kruse and Elsie Harvey and his brother, Duane E. Boggio.
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 20, 2024, at 2:00 pm at the fairgrounds.
