April 7, 1946-February 17, 2024
Steven B. Molvig was born on April 7, 1946 in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
He was raised on the family farm, helping his father Alvin and mother Doris.  He and his older sibling, sister Joan, share the same birthday.  Steve always said he was “The best birthday present Joan ever got!”
There was a bit of grumbling however when they had to share a single birthday cake between them.
Graduating from high school in Climax, Minnesota in 1963, Steve began his college career attending Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota.
He finished his undergraduate degree  at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
June of 1970 saw Steve drafted, called to the United States Army.  He would go on to be thankfully stationed in the states, becoming a field medic.  He was honorably discharged in December of 1971.
He went back to teaching, later taking a break to go back to school to pursue and attain his master’s degree from his alma mater UND during the early 1980’s.
Most of us will remember Steve as a Biology or P. E. teacher.  He was also a coach to many young students.
Steve’s first coaching and teaching position was in North Dakota.  In 1989 he relocated to Owyhee, Nevada, to continue teaching.
The 1991-1992 school year brought Steve to West Wendover Elementary in West Wendover, Nevada.
Steve remained the P.E. teacher at West Wendover Elementary from 1991-2007.
The West Wendover High School opened in 1996, and Steve began many years of coaching and assisting other coaches when needed.  Steve retired in 2007.
He went on to relocate to Lovelock, Nevada in 2011.
There, he again helped Pershing County High School girl’s basketball coaching staff.  Coaching was something he enjoyed very much.
His sports knowledge was unparalleled.  He could usually answer any sports trivia question asked.
Those who knew Steve well, knew his brilliance in the kitchen.
His taste was very refined in that he could pretty much pick out any and all ingredients in something he had never tasted before.
Many hours were spent cooking for his friends and school colleagues.  We enjoyed every last bite!
Steve was preceded in death by his father Alvin, and mother Doris.
He is survived by his sister Joan Whiting of Sequim, WA, nephew Aaron Whiting (Linda) of Ft. Lupton, CO, and great nephews and great niece.  At the family’s request, there are no plans for services.
