John Aufdermaur Jr.

John Aufdermaur Jr. died peacefully on February 8, 2024.
He was born on October 10, 1937 to John Sr. and Caroline Aufdermaur who immigrated to Lovelock, NV from Switzerland.
John’s birth made headlines in the local paper because he was the Aufdermaur’s first son following 5 sisters.
He had 6 sisters and 3 brothers. His family owned and operated Purity Dairy and he grew up in the family business helping his dad milk cows, delivering milk, and driving a team of horses in the fields.
John attended Fairview Elementary School and graduated from Pershing County High School in 1955.
While attending high school, he was involved in football, basketball, student council and FFA. John worked at Nevada Iron Mines, Munk Brothers, Fundis Trucking, Larry Starr Cement, and Eagle Picher where he retired after 30+ years.
After retirement, John became Pershing County’s brand inspector. A job he greatly loved. John was an altar server at St John’s Catholic Church for over 75 years, 4-H leader for over 20 years, served 2 terms on the Pershing County School Board, one of the founding directors of the Pershing County Kids, Horses Rodeo Inc. (local rodeo grounds), coached little league, middle school basketball, President of the Parish Council, auctioneer for many local organizations, avid hunter and fisherman, and loved to ride horses and team rope.
He was well known for his woodworking skills. He made numerous picture frames and bird houses all out of the barn wood from his farm.
John married Bobbie Jeanne Sturges on April 21, 1957. They had 4 daughters.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father, 4 sisters, and 3 brothers.
John is survived by his wife of 66 years, Bobbie Jeanne, 4 daughters Lynn Christofferson, Joan Duncan(Dan), Lisa Booth (Tony), Jane Kennedy (Eric), 11 grandchildren, 25 great- grandchildren, sisters Mary Jane McKibben, and Virginia Rose (Glenn).
When grandkids starting showing up, he was affectionally known as “Papa” and to our whole community as “Papa John”.
John took great care of the Lovelock Rodeo Grounds for many years.
