Oscar Romero

Oscar Romero passed away on December 12, 2024, at his home in Winnemucca, Nevada.
He was born on July 16, 1933, in Crystal City, Texas to Arturo and Sofia Romero.
He grew up with his four siblings.
Oscar married his wife, Marta on March 11, 1956. They were together for 67 years before her passing in 2023.
They shared six children together, Juan “John”, Patricia “Patsy”, Margie, Rachel, Linda and Anna Rebecca.
He worked in agriculture all his life; it took him to several states. Eventually landing his family in Ontario, Oregon.
In 1979, he moved his family to Winnemucca, Nevada. He worked for Winnemucca Farms until he was injured.
He was a member of the Catholic Church in Oregon and the Knights of Columbus.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, and hunting in his early years.
He would help his wife with her gardening and enjoyed planting his own tomatoes, peppers and onions.
Oscar and Marta would take their family to the Oregon Coast every summer. And he would take his kids to help him go check on the sprinklers at the Potato Farm.
There are so many memories that will live with his family forever and give them comfort.
He was a great dad and a great grandfather and was always there when his family needed him.
He will be missed dearly, and he will now rest in peace with the love of his life, Marta and his children, John and Patsy.
Oscar is survived by his children, Margie Romero, Rachel (Billy) Bragg, Linda Sevy (Jason Bullington) Anna Rebecca Romero and Benita Martinez.
His grandchildren, Misty (Chase) Palmer, Martin (Priscilla) Hernandez, Angie Liscano, Alex (Cassie) Huerta, Andrew (Ashley) Sevy, Andrea Hernandez, Anthony (Morgan) Huerta, Mikayla Sevy, Mateo (Shannon) Davis, Adriana Valdez, Adam Williamson and Brandon Taylor.
His great-grandchildren, Juliana, Ray J, Cassy and Tikki Palmer, Dominic and Calvin Hernandez, Charlize and Angelina Hernandez, Haisley Davis, Christian Romero, Bailey Sevy and Devyn and Rebecca Huerta.
He is also survived by his sisters, Maria Ibarra and Oralia Romero.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Marta Romero, his parents, Arturo and Sofia Romero, his brother, Hector Romero and sister, Rosa Romero.
His children, Juan “John” Romero and Patricia “Patsy” Romero Liscano and his grandchild, Jordyn R Taylor and great-grandchild, Julius J “Baby J” Barker and his sons-in-law, Martin Hernandez Sr and Steven Sevy.
Services for Oscar Romero will be held on Monday, December 23, 2024, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church Rosary at 10:30 am, Mass at 11 am with burial to follow at the Paradise Valley Cemetery.
