James “Jim” Edwin McKillop, 75, of Winnemucca, NV passed away on October 9, 2023.
James was born on December 16, 1947, to James and Jean McKillop in Eugene, OR.
He grew up in Oregon, where he could often be found running track and playing football.
He graduated from Cottage Grove High School in 1966 and went on to study business at Southern Oregon College.
After graduating, sunnier days called James to Northern Nevada where he started McKillop Construction.
James met Charlene Martin in Lake Tahoe and they wed in 1975. They had two children, Jamie and Jesse, and three grandchildren, Shelby, Ellie, and Evan. He enjoyed spending time with them most of all.
Outside of his family, James spent much of his energy being a dedicated business owner, building custom homes throughout Lake Tahoe, Minden, Gardnerville, Carson City and Winnemucca.
James was a man of faith. After raising his children, he committed himself to following God, devoutly studying scripture, and could often be found behind the pulpit of his local church sharing the good news with his friends.
He was a simple man. He did not need much and never asked for much. He enjoyed tending to his goats, spending time with his dogs, and having his cat Misty nap on his lap.
James was a hard worker. Passionate about his endeavors, accomplishing much, never fearing disciplined work, and swinging a hammer until the last of his days.
James was selfless, never selfish, always willing to lend support to his friends and family in any way he could. He was patient and kind.
Always giving people the benefit of the doubt and never judging. He loved and was loved back by family, friends, and his church.
James was preceded in death by his father, James McKillop, his mother, Jean McKillop and his brother Jack McKillop.
He is survived by his children Jamie (Jeff) Peterson of North Bend, WA and Jesse (Dottie) McKillop of Winnemucca, NV.
His grandchildren Shelby Hibbs, Ellie Peterson and Evan Peterson; his siblings, Ted McKillop of Lyons, OR, Cliff McKillop of Republic, WA and Herb McKillop of Eugene, OR.
There will be a graveside service held at the Winnemucca Cemetery at 10:00 followed by a Celebration of Life at the Seventh Day Adventist Church at 11:30 on Tuesday, October 24th. Lunch to follow.
The family will be wearing blue jeans and white tee shirts to honor James at the service. Please join us in matching attire if you desire.
May his strength, fortitude for work, and fondness of independence carry forth in your memories.
