Earl William Horton passed away on September 2, 2023, in Reno, Nevada. He was born on October 28, 1932, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Carl and Eugenia Horton.
He was a lifelong resident of Winnemucca, Nevada. He graduated from Humboldt County High School.
After high school, he joined the United States Navy and served 4 years during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged and received two medals for good conduct.
After returning home, he was employed by the Bureau of Land Management as a heavy equipment operator and firefighter. He retired from the BLM after 33 years.
He was a member of the Buckaroo Hall of Fame and served on the board of trustees.
He enjoyed playing his guitar, going to the hills to prospect, gardening, reading books, fishing, and watching sports. He was a lifelong 49ers fan!
Earl was much loved and will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his daughter, Joan Horton. His six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, his sister, Margaret Davis and his two nephews and 4 nieces.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Eugenia Horton, his brother, Vernon Richard Horton, his nephew, John Harris and his son Earl William Horton Jr.
A Graveside Funeral Service will be held on October 13, 2023 at 11 am at the Winnemucca Cemetery.
