Josephine “Jo” Maverne Koch Davis

November 7, 1922 - October 25, 2023

Josephine Maverne “Jo” Koch Davis went to be with the Lord on October 25, 2023.
She was born on November 7, 1922, in Bishop. California to William and Ena Koch.
Jo lived in Bishop, California for a lot of her life. She attended LA City College but when she came home at Christmas time her sister, Francis, was ailing so she decided to stay home.
She worked in the Bishop Music Store, at her father’s store, the Toggery; her brother’s store, Sierra Saddlery and Feed Store. She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church.
While working in the Bishop Music Store, Jo met Howard Merton Davis Jr. and soon they were married on March 27, 1944, before he was shipped out to be stationed in England.
The two shared 77 wonderful years together until Howard’s passing in 2021. They had two children together, Linda Marie and Susan Marlene.
In Bishop, the two owned and managed the Foster Freeze and later added a Burger Hut. In 1996, they moved to Winnemucca, Nevada to be near their daughter and her family.
After moving to Winnemucca, she became a member of the Zion Lutheran Church.
She loved music, especially the piano and organ and sewing.
She was into exercise and healthy food, she said she should have been a dietician.
She watched what they ate and made sure Howard got all his fruits and veggies.
Jo was still using the exercise bike at Harmony Manor close to when she passed.
Everyone loved Jo’s sense of humor, especially her good friends at the “party table” (Wanda, Pauline, and Nevada).
The “Party Table” was known for visiting all the time, being involved in all the activities, especially bingo, and they didn’t go to nap right after the noon meal!
Jo had many cliches, one of her favorites was when she was upset with someone she would say “oh go milk a duck”.
Jo always enjoyed her visits with family, she was excited when her great-grands and her great-great-granddaughters came to visit!
She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Glen) Wilson, her grandchildren, Kris (Louis) Kelly, Kevin Wilson, and Kraig (Sandy) Wilson.
Her great-grandchildren, Shane Kelly, Alicia (Dillon) Cadwell, Brian (Chaslynn) Kelly, Nick Wilson, Zachary (Brittany) Graves, Lily Graves, Ryan Brickey, and Samantha (Rob) Odle.
And her ELEVEN great-great GRANDDAUGHTERS!
She is preceded in death by her husband, Howard M. Davis Jr., her daughter, Susan (Larry) Matthewson and granddaughter, Renee (Rob) Graves. Her parents, William N. Koch and Ena Farrington Koch. Her brother, James W. Koch, and her sister, Francis Elaine Koch.
There will be a Memorial Service on November 22, 2023, at 11:00 am at Zion Lutheran Church.
There will be a private graveside service for the family later.
The family of Jo would like to thank the Pleasant Senior Center for many years of good food, exercise classes and pinochle.
The Beehive Assisted Living Center (Kit and Bev Hobson) and Harmony Manor Skilled Nursing Home Staff for 6 years of love and care and going above and beyond.
As well as Pastor Mark Kliewer and Vicar Justin Iwen at Zion Lutheran Church for your inspirational visits and so much more.
