John James Moore

August 27, 1942 - June 11, 2023

John James Moore passed away on June 11, 2023. John, a third generation Nevadan, was born August 27,1942, to Theodore and Harriet Moore in Winnemucca, Nevada.
John grew up in Winnemucca and graduated from Humboldt County High school in 1960. He attended the University of Nevada before going to work for NDOT.
In 1962, John married his high school sweetheart Sharon Graham. They made their home in Winnemucca except for the times his job relocated them elsewhere in Nevada.
In 1977 John was relocated to Carson City as an Assistant Maintenance Engineer for NDOT.
In 1986, John moved back to Winnemucca as engineer in charge of NDOT District 6. In 1989, John retired after 30 years of service. John was also a licensed land surveyor in the state of Nevada.
John had a great sense of humor. You never knew if or when he was teasing you.
He was friendly, respected, and always ready to lend a hand. If you couldn’t fix something, he would show you how.
John enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, restoring old cars, and doing woodworking projects. Grandchildren Joey, Chris, and Alyssa Dendary all learned their fishing, hunting, golfing, tool use, and woodworking skills from Grandpa John.
He was overjoyed when his great granddaughter Ada Mae Dendary arrived in 2021.
She visited him almost daily and brightened his world. He was the first person she looked for when she came through the back door and if she didn’t see him, it was always “where is Papa JJ?”
John is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sharon. Children Kenny (Barb) Moore and Sandra (Joe) Dendary, all of Winnemucca, NV.
Several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Brother Ted (Carol) Moore, nieces Ashley Moore, Maeghan Moore, Heather Moore all of Reno,NV. Nephew Christopher (Cathy) Moore, Hong Kong, China.
John was preceded in death by his parents Ted and Harriet Moore and nephew David Mark-Andrew Moore.
John touched so many lives and we will forever miss him. Lifelong friends John and Scheryl Shorter will continue to share loving memories and stories of 61 years. As well as friends of 45 years, Teada, Roger, and Nikki Budden of Carson City, NV.
He so enjoyed being one of the guys that met for coffee at the Chevron with Dewey any time after 4 A.M. , 5 days a week. He will always be close in so many hearts.
Per John’s wishes, there will be no service.
