Mary Olive Knapp

With deep sadness we share the passing of Mary Olive (Phelps) (Gialy) Knapp, on July 4, 2023, at the age of 91, in Carson City, NV. She was the daughter of Holly and Vera (Adams) Phelps. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Gene Phelps, son Andy Gialy and daughter Patti Gialy. Mary was an owner/partner in the CPA firm of Knapp, Cook & Williams. She was appointed to sit on the Nevada State Board of Accountancy by governor, Michael O’Callaghan, and was honored by the Carson Chamber of Commerce as Woman of the Year in 1978. Mary also served as president of the Chamber of Commerce, and the local Soroptimists club, as well as serving as a trustee for the Carson-Tahoe Hospital. For many years, she was a tireless supporter and volunteer for the Carson City annual Whistle-Off. Wherever there was music to be found, she had …

John James Moore

John James Moore passed away on June 11, 2023. John, a third generation Nevadan, was born August 27,1942, to Theodore and Harriet Moore in Winnemucca, Nevada. John grew up in Winnemucca and graduated from Humboldt County High school in 1960. He attended the University of Nevada before going to work for NDOT. In 1962, John married his high school sweetheart Sharon Graham. They made their home in Winnemucca except for the times his job relocated them elsewhere in Nevada. In 1977 John was relocated to Carson City as an Assistant Maintenance Engineer for NDOT. In 1986, John moved back to Winnemucca as engineer in charge of NDOT District 6. In 1989, John retired after 30 years of service. John was also a licensed land surveyor in the state of Nevada. John had a great sense of humor. You never knew if or when he was teasing you. Richard Carl Wolters Jr

Richard Carl Wolters Jr. passed away on June 23, 2023. He was born on January 26, 1971, in Pacoima, California to Richard Carl Wolters Sr. and Mary Loretta Parker. Rick was born in Pacoima, California and moved to Oregon in 1971 after a devastating earthquake. He attended Nazareth School of Roseburg for elementary school. In 1984, the family moved to Green River, Wyoming for his father’s work. Rick attended junior high school and partial high school in Green River. After his father healed from an accident, the family moved once again to Battle Mountain, Nevada in the fall of 1988. Rick graduated from Battle Mountain High School in 1989. After high school, he took courses in mining and started his career. He worked union jobs in Millwright. He moved to various places doing this work including Texas and Arizona and various places in Nevada. But he would always call Battle …

Judy Alice Scott

Judy Alice Scott passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2023, at her home at 86 years old. She was born on January 3, 1937, in Ward County, Minot, North Dakota. Judy graduated in 1955 from Minot High School. Judy married her soulmate, Robert Kent Scott, on April 22, 1956, at Christ Lutheran in Minot and were blessed with 58 years of marriage. In that time they had 3 children, Ramona, Allen, and Terri. Judy’s husband moved the family from Minot, North Dakota to Southern California in 1961. They moved again to Buena Park to a larger home and better schools. In 1966, Judy went back to school to be a dental assistant and she graduated top of her class. She continued her studies and was certified for Oral Surgery Assistant. She worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Harris and Dr. O’Connor of Norwalk, CA for seven years and then …

Lester D (Joe) Weagant

Lester D (Joe) Weagant: A long-time resident of Lovelock passed away peacefully, on June 25, 2023, at home. Joe was born in Alturas California, on December 21,1944. Preceded in death by both of his parents, his brothers Floyd, Jerry and his daughter Shelly Weagant. He is survived by wife JoAnn Weagant, sister Kathy Hintz (Les), daughter Donna Rose (Tom Daigneault), son Patrick Garrett (Jeana) of Lovelock. Grandchildren Alvin Rose (Katlyn) Nicole Morse (Markus) Brooklyn Rose, T’zhay Garrett (Maryana Martinez), Mykol Garrett, Jaeden Garrett, Ashlynn Garrett and great Granddaughter Jayla Morse and many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by many! Services will be held at the Community Center in Lovelock NV at 11 a.m. on Saturday July 8th with burial at Lone Mountain Cemetery to follow. Luncheon will follow at the Catholic Hall. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Home in Fallon, NV 775-423-2255.

Daniel (Danny) Lee Rhoads

10/07/1961 – 04/14/2023 Daniel Lee Rhoads (Danny) passed away at his home on April 14, 2023. Danny was born in Rio Linda, Calif., to Wendell and Wilma Rhoads. He moved to Winnemucca, NV in 1981 to be closer to his brother Richard (Rick) Bailey. He was a manger at Winner’s Corner for many years before becoming a District Manager. He married Kathy Rhoads in 1996 and became a dad to Juena Canales. In 2002, he was blessed with another daughter, Shelby Rhoads. He became the manager at Golden Gate Petroleum (Conoco) in Winnemucca. He was also blessed with 3 granddaughters, Ludivynne Canales, Daetana Schoonover and Montana Schoonover. Danny is preceded in death by his parents Wendell and Wilma Rhoads, his brothers Richard (Rick) Bailey and Eugene Rhoads. Larry Hall

Larry Henry Hall Sr. passed away on June 27, 2023, at his home in Winnemucca, Nevada. He was born on January 29, 1944, to Rio and Ruth Hall in Gateway, Colorado. He finished high school and went on to attend Mesa Junior College for 6 months while pursuing an accounting degree in Grand Junction, Colorado. He joined the United States Army on May 13, 1965. He served as Stevedor and parts and supplies specialist during the Vietnam War. Larry married Debra on September 21, 1973. They were married for 49 years and shared 3 children, Cherise, Larry Jr., and Chantil. He worked in the mining industry in Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and Nevada. He moved from Grants, New Mexico to Winnemucca, Nevada in 1990 for a job opportunity. In 1990, he started with Twin Creeks mine and retired in 2006.
