On July 5th we lost a great lady, Carol Ann Shank (Nieblas).
She was born in Santa Ana, California on July 7th, 1947 to Robert J. Nieblas and Joyce Mary (Walker) Nieblas.
She grew up in Santa Ana and graduated from Santa Ana High School.
She started taking classes and working at Santa Ana College. Later on, she worked for Chapman College as an administrative secretary.
She met the love of her life in 1971 and was married to John W. Shank in 1973.
John and Carol worked at various jobs in Santa Ana, California.
In 1978 the Shanks moved to Reno, Nevada.
Carol worked as an administrative secretary to several entities in Reno, Nevada.
In 1980 the Shanks moved to Fernley, Nevada.
Carol worked at the Truck Inn as a secretary. In 1984 Carol gave birth to her daughter Ann-Marie. It was a great moment in their lives.
In 1984 when John became a Deputy Sheriff, the Shanks moved to Dayton, Nevada.
Carol became the secretary to the Principal of Carson High School. Carol held that job until 1995.
Then the Shanks moved to Lovelock, Nevada, as John got a job as an electrician at the Lovelock Corrections Facility. Carol landed a job as an Administrative Secretary at the Pershing County Office of the superintendent.
Carol held that position from August of 1995 until January of 2010, when she took the office of Pershing County Commissioner. She termed-out as commissioner in January of 2023. Retirement was short.
She leaves behind her mother Joyce (95 years old), and her father Robert J. Neiblas who preceded her in death.
Her husband John W. Shank, her daughter Ann-Marie Fenner and her husband Chad, and grandchildren Rhea, Rori, Roan, and Riot. John’s son John Jr. and wife Michelle, daughter Dena and husband Paul, and three grandchildren.
Loura and husband Scott and two grandsons. Her brother Robert, her sister Marilyn, brother Gerard and sister Teresa.
The Celebration of Life will be August 5th at the Lovelock Community Center at 1:00 pm.
