BMHS junior varsity boys go 1-2 in Lovelock

Longhorns host tourney this weekend

With not a lot of experience back from a season ago, the Battle Mountain High School junior varsity boys basketball team opened its season last weekend at the Mustang Invitational in Lovelock.

Battle Mountain wrestling, basketball begins this week

The Battle Mountain High School basketball and wrestling teams are in full swing this week. The varsity boys and girls basketball team make the trip to central Nevada for the Serpent Classic in Hawthorne. The squads will play four-to-five, non-conference games over the three days.  The Longhorn wrestlers open their season this weekend at the Bucks Bags Invitational in Boise, Idaho. Battle Mountain travels to Elko on Tuesday for a dual and is in Winnemucca Dec. 9-10 for the Cody Louk Invitational.

The Battle Mountain High School fall sports teams were rewarded well for their play as the postseason awards are out. The all-league and all-state teams are chosen by the league's coaches.

Pershing County caps off perfect season with grinding win over Yerington

For the first time since 2012, the Pershing County High School football team is the best in the 2A. The Mustangs defeated Yerington 14-7 on Saturday afternoon in Fernley to win the eighth state title in school history. Yerington had won the last three 2A state championships. Before that, Pershing County won three consecutive titles from 2010-12. Tad Milich scored the winning touchdown with six minutes left to play, helping the Mustangs to a 12-0 season.

BMHS football season ends with loss to Yerington

The last time the Battle Mountain High School football team faced a three-time defending state champions, it pulled off an upset. The Longhorns found themselves in the same situation this past Friday night, with a road trip to Yerington to begin the NIAA 2A State Championships. The Lions won the regular season meeting, but the Longhorns were looking to reverse the outcome from earlier in the season.

Lady Longhorns knocked off in semifinals at regional tourney

FERNLEY — After making the most significant improvement from a season ago in the Northern 2A, the Battle Mountain High School volleyball team found itself in the regional championships this past Saturday in Fernley.

Lady Longhorns split final matches of the season

The Battle Mountain High School girls soccer team rounded out its season with a pair of home games last week. The Lady Longhorns beat Dayton 1-0 on Thursday, as Sruti Bhakta scored in extra time in the 82nd minute to give Battle Mountain the victory. Bhakta also had the lone goal for Battle on Friday, as the Lady Longhorns lost 2-1 to Fernley. Battle Mountain finished the season 5-9 in league play and 10-12-1 overall.

For just the second time this fall, the Battle Mountain High School football team was able to run out on the turf at Tim Knight Field.

Battle Mountain’s Lynzee Devlin and Adriene Burkhart took part in the NIAA 2A State Championships at Incline Village on Monday, Oct. 10, and Tuesday, Oct. 11.

Battle Mountain crushes West Wendover to get back on track

The Battle Mountain High School football team erased a three-game losing streak in a big way, with a 51-6 win over West Wendover on Friday night on the Utah/Nevada border. The entire game was played with 40 MPH winds.
