The Battle Mountain High School softball team picked two victories in three games against Silver Stage last week. The series opened on Tuesday, March 27, in Battle Mountain and the Lady Longhorns collected an 8-6 win over the Nighthawks. The series shifted to Silver Springs this past Saturday and the two squads split the doubleheader. Silver Stage won the first game 5-1 and Battle Mountain claimed the series finale 12-4 to improve to 4-3 in the Northern 2A.

Battle Mountain’s Cody Ostler, Eddie Morfin and Cameron Thompson took home a pair of individual victories at the Elko Invitational last Friday in Elko. Ostler led the way in the triple jump with a leap of 37 feet, 10.75 inches and was fourth in the long jump at 17-3.50. Morfin swept the throwing events, winning the discus with a toss of 128-4 and the shot put at 45-2.50. Thompson cleared 10-6 in the pole vault to win that event.
This past weekend the Battle Mountain High School baseball team took the diamond against Yerington Lions for a three-games series. The Longhorns defeated the Lions in game two after a walk-off hit by Gabe Naveran.
The Battle Mountain High School boys golf team traveled to West Wendover for the second week in a row to compete in a league tournament. The team showed signs of improvement claiming third place, led by Brody Young.

Pershing County High School was the setting for the Tah-Neva League Wrestling Championship Tournament on Saturday. Twenty-two teams from throughout northern Nevada competed in the one-day event to crown the 2018 individual and team champions. The Battle Mountain Shorthorns qualified 17 wrestlers for the event and they turned in a very impressive showing.
The Battle Mountain High School boys golf team traveled to West Wendover on Wednesday, March 14, for the Wolverine golf tournament. The Longhorns’ Brody Young finished with the third lowest score in the competition.
With the conclusion of the state championship tournament, Battle Mountain High School ended its 2017-2018 basketball season. The Longhorns’ successful season established several student-athletes with an end of the year award.
The Battle Mountain Future Farmers of America (FFA) recently held a fundraiser inside the Battle Mountain High School (BMHS) gym called Donkey Basketball. The game pitted four teams — high school students, faculty and alumni — against each other.
On Friday, March 9, the Battle Mountain High School Longhorn baseball team took the field for the first time this season against the Pershing County Mustangs in Lovelock. The Longhorns would finish the tournament with a 3-1 record before returning home for games in Battle Mountain.
