Nevada picked to three-peat as MW Champions

The University of Nevada men’s basketball team was picked to three-peat as Mountain West Champions in 2018-19.  The poll of MW media members was released by the conference office today.  Four members of the team; Jordan Caroline, Caleb Martin, Cody Martin and Jordan Brown were also honored by the MW media.

Lady Longhorns split home matches, stay in playoff hunt

If the Battle Mountain High School volleyball team wanted to keep its playoff hopes alive it would need have to won one of two matches it hosted this past weekend for Homecoming. In the first meeting this year with Silver Stage, Battle Mountain lost in four sets to the Nighthawks. The Lady Longhorns nearly let that happen for a second time on Friday night.

Longhorns clinch home playoff game with win over Yerington

The Battle Mountain High School football team accomplished one goal this past Friday night but are looking for bigger and better things later this week. The Longhorns secured a home playoff game in November after a 42-10 win over Yerington on Homecoming night in Battle Mountain. With a postseason berth clinched, the Longhorns will look to win a league title for the first time in nine years when they travel to Lovelock on Friday night. “I thought it was one of our best performances of the year and it was against a good, quality team,” said BMHS coach Mitch Domagala. “The kids played hard and it was a good turnaround from the week before when we were flat.”

Oklahoma fires defensive coordinator after Texas loss

Oklahoma has fired defensive coordinator Mike Stoops after the Sooners struggled to stop Texas in their first loss of the season. The Sooners said Monday that Ruffin McNeill, the assistant head coach and defensive tackles coach, will be the defensive coordinator for the rest of the season.

Lady Longhorn golfers wrap up regular season

The Battle Mountain High School girls golf team concluded its regular season last week in Round Mountain and finished second as a team to White Pine. Destiny Villanueva placed third overall with a round of 110. Adriana Robles was fifth overall at 111.

Lady Longhorns fall 1-0 to Mustangs

The Battle Mountain High School girls soccer team was looking to pick up its second straight victory as it traveled to Lovelock on Saturday afternoon. However, the Lady Longhorns could not get their offense in gear and suffered a 1-0 loss to the Pershing County Mustangs.

The Battle Mountain High School football team continued its winning ways in Tahoe City, Calif., on Saturday afternoon with a 34-20 win over North Tahoe.

The Battle Mountain High School boys soccer team came away from its road trip with a split of two matches. The Longhorns dropped a 3-0 match to White Pine on Friday afternoon. The Bobcats scored a pair of goals in the first 40 minutes of the match and did not look back.

The Battle Mountain High School volleyball team made quick work of its road trip to Reno this past Saturday, with a three-set sweep of Coral Academy. The Lady Longhorns were not challenged in any of the sets, winning 25-3, 25-11 and 25-5 to move to 8-9 overall and 4-6 in the Northern 2A.

BMHS girls soccer splits road matches

The Battle Mountain High School girls soccer team split of pair of road matches this past weekend. The road trip began in Ely on Friday afternoon with a 5-0 loss to White Pine. The Ladycats scored twice in the first 40 minutes and round out the match with three goals in the final 40 minutes.

Battle Mountain golfers claim victory on its home course

The Battle Mountain High School girls golf team looks to be peaking just at the right time, as the 2A season is nearing an end. The Lady Longhorns were on their home course this past Thursday and used that to their advantage to win the tournament with a season-best score of 437. The Elko JV was second at 448.

Battle Mountain rolls past American Falls

The Battle Mountain High School football team found itself in an unusual spot on Friday night during its home game with American Falls, Idaho. The Longhorns trailed in a game for the first since its season opener at Lincoln County in August.
