Lady Longhorns split games with Nighthawks, Lions

The Battle Mountain High School girls basketball team has had to go through some adjustments in the first month of the season. The Lady Longhorns received bad news before the season even started when they found Isabella DeAllah would not play due to a knee injury suffered on the last day of the volleyball season. Battle Mountain made it through the first couple weeks of the season without another injury, until sophomore Brooke Ripley injured her knee against Incline a couple weeks ago and is now out for the season.

Battle Mountain wrestlers starts 2019 in Idaho

Southern Idaho was the destination for the Battle Mountain High School wrestling tea, as they kicked off 2019 by seeking out the best the Spud State had to offer.  “We split up into two teams this weekend in order to get all the kids as many matches as possible.  It paid off.  Our kids wrestled solid throughout the tournaments,” said BMHS coach Domagala.  

BMHS JV boys win one at home

The Battle Mountain High School junior varsity boys basketball team was back on its home floor this past weekend and came away with a win and loss. Battle Mountain faced Silver Stage on Friday afternoon and posted a 59-51 win. Santos Farias led the way with 18 points and six rebounds.  Terrence Fetterly joined him in double figures 14 points eight rebounds. 

Battle Mountain JV girls split a pair of home league games

The Battle Mountain High School junior varsity girls saw its first action of 2019, hosting a pair of games this past weekend. The Lady Longhorns opened the weekend on Friday afternoon with a 46-12 win over Silver Stage.

Battle Mountain boys drop two Northern 2A games on home floor

Slow starts for the Battle Mountain High School boys basketball team have been  commonplace this season and this past weekend was no different for the Longhorns. Coming off a week without games, Battle Mountain fell behind early to Silver Stage on Friday night and suffered a 52-51 loss to the Nighthawks. Battle Mountain outscored Silver Stage 24-10 in the final eight minutes but it was not enough to complete the comeback.

Battle Mountain rally comes up short against Incline

The Battle Mountain High School girls basketball team dug itself a big hole on Friday, Dec. 21, and were unable to come back from a double-digit, first-quarter deficit to Incline.

Longhorns drop home contest to Highlanders

Coming off an emotional last-second loss to North Tahoe, the Battle Mountain High School boys basketball team started off slowly against Incline on Friday, Dec. 21, in Battle Mountain. In the final contest of 2018, the Highlanders jumped out to an 18-6 lead in the first quarter en route to a 66-37 win, as the Longhorns dropped to 1-3 in the Northern 3A. 

BMHS wrestlers dominate Ely tournament

As the high school wrestling season hit the halfway point, the Battle Mountain High School wrestling team found their stride as they hit on all cylinders enroute to claiming the team title at the nine-team Ely Lions Tournament.  

North Tahoe hits buzzer-beater to stun Battle Mountain

Everything was in place for the Battle Mountain High School boys basketball team to complete an improbable comeback on Thursday night in its home opener against North Tahoe. The Lakers held an 18-point lead at halftime but saw that disappear late in the fourth quarter, when Marcus Jury converted a layup to tie the game at 48-48 with 5.2 seconds left in the contest.

The Battle Mountain High School waited a little over three weeks to play on its home floor for the first time and made it count with a 51-15 win over North Tahoe on Thursday night.

BMHS junior varsity boys split road games

The Battle Mountain High School junior varsity boys basketball team split a pair of games on the road to begin play in the Northern 2A this past weekend. Battle Mountain lost 70-40 to West Wendover on Friday night. Santos Farias had 10 points and three rebounds and Kobe Lake added nine points and six rebounds.

Battle Mountain boys fall to Weest Wendover, beat White Pine to start league play

The Battle Mountain High School boys basketball team opened the Northern 2A season with a mixed bag of results. The Longhorns traveled to West Wendover on Friday night and suffered a 74-48 loss. The Wolverines led 16-14 after eight minutes of play and extended the margin to 40-24 at halftime.

Lady Longhorns split opening Northern 2A games

The Battle Mountain High School girls basketball team started out its Northern 2A season with a split of two road games this past weekend. The Lady Longhorns opened league play with a 58-41 victory over West Wendover.

Battle Mountain boys pick up three wins in Virginia City

With a young team on the floor, the Battle Mountain High School boys basketball team continued its winning ways this past weekend at the Comstock Classic in Virginia City. The Longhorns went 3-1 with wins over Coleville, Calif., Pahranagat Valley and McDermitt. The only loss was Sierra Lutheran and Battle Mountain stands at 6-3 on the season.

State champs back on the mat

The Battle Mountain High School wrestling made the short trip to Winnemucca this past weekend for the Cody Louk Invitational. The Longhorns tied for seventh place along side league rival Yerington with 107 points. Spanish Springs, the defending 4A state champion, won the tournament with 216.50 points. Host Lowry and Reed tied for second place with 185 points. Fernley (138.50), Bishop Manogue (134) and Pershing County (131) were fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.
