Battle Mountain sees season end with loss to Needles

Battle Mountain gets by Yerington to advance to state semifinals

It wasn’t pretty at times but the Battle Mountain High School football team did just enough to get by Yerington Friday night with a 27-8 victory to advance to the 2A state semifinals this Saturday in Needles, Calif. When the two schools played in early October, Battle Mountain easily won 42-10. It appeared the same fate awaited the Lions in the opening round of the playoffs after the opening kickoff.

Lady Longhorns beat Mustangs in season finale

The Battle Mountain High School girls soccer team ended its season with a 2-1 victory over Pershing County on Senior Day. The Lady Longhorns said goodbye to its two seniors in Sruti Bhakta and Liliana Chavez.

Battle Mountain cruises to victory over Incline

If there was any thought of the Battle Mountain football team overlooking Incline and toward its opening-round playoff game, that was quickly answered with the opening kickoff on Thursday night in Battle Mountain. Aldo Castellanos returned the opening kickoff 88 yards for a touchdown and Nestor Miramontes added the extra point and the rout was on from there. 

Battle Mountain wins in five sets at Lovelock

The Battle Mountain High School volleyball team closed out the regular season with a pair of wins to clinch the No. 5 seed in this weekend’s Northern 2A Regional Championship in Ely.

Nevada's Caleb Martin named to AP All-America team

University of Nevada senior Caleb Martin has been selected to the Associated Press preseason All-America team, released today.   He is the first Nevada player to earn preseason AP All-America honors.  Last week Martin was named to the 2019 Julius Erving Award watch list.  The award recognizes the top small forward in Division I men’s college basketball.

Nevada scores 24 straight points in 40-22 win over Hawaii

Toa Taua had 126 yards rushing and a touchdown on 18 carries and Ty Gangi passed for 247 yards and a score to help Nevada beat Hawaii 40-22 on Saturday night.

The Battle Mountain High School girls soccer team was on the road this past weekend and dropped both games in Lyon County. The Lady Longhorns were in Yerington on Friday and suffered a 6-1 loss to the Lions.

The Battle Mountain High School volleyball team clinched a spot in the Northern 2A playoffs after recording a split of a pair of matches this past weekend in Lake Tahoe.

Nevada picked to three-peat as MW Champions

The University of Nevada men’s basketball team was picked to three-peat as Mountain West Champions in 2018-19.  The poll of MW media members was released by the conference office today.  Four members of the team; Jordan Caroline, Caleb Martin, Cody Martin and Jordan Brown were also honored by the MW media.

Lady Longhorns split home matches, stay in playoff hunt

If the Battle Mountain High School volleyball team wanted to keep its playoff hopes alive it would need have to won one of two matches it hosted this past weekend for Homecoming. In the first meeting this year with Silver Stage, Battle Mountain lost in four sets to the Nighthawks. The Lady Longhorns nearly let that happen for a second time on Friday night.
