Lady Longhorns knock off Wells in three sets in non-conference action

The Battle Mountain High School volleyball team collected a non-conference victory last Thursday, with a three set sweep of Wells. The Lady Longhorns narrowly won set one 25-22 and kept the momentum in the final two sets 25-19 and 25-13.

BMHS’ Villanueva wins in Elko

The weather this spring hasn’t been the kindness to the Battle Mountain High School girls golf team this spring. The Lady Longhorns had their tournament postponed on March 11, due to snow, but the Battle Mountain girls received some nice weather on St. Patrick’s Day at Ruby View Golf Course in Elko.

Lowry falls to Fernley, suffers first loss of the season

Saturday’s meeting between the Lowry High School football team had a playoff atmosphere to it, with the brown dormant grass and the cold, wet and windy conditions usually fitted for November. Fernley came in as the reigning 3A state champion from 2019, but during that season, the Vaqueros lost to the Buckaroos.  The Vaqueros would trail early on Saturday afternoon, but rallied to beat the Buckaroos 50-21. For Lowry (2-1), it was the first loss of the season.

Battle Mountain boys split with White Pine, Sage Ridge

The Battle Mountain High School boys soccer team netted a split of two homecoming matches this past weekend. On Friday afternoon, Battle Mountain overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit to beat White Pine 4-1. In the first meeting this year, the two teams tied.  The Longhorns were back on their home field on Saturday and lost 8-0 to Sage Ridge to drop to 1-2-1 on the year. Against White Pine, Battle Mountain had more offensive and scoring opportunities in the first 40 minutes of the match, trying to use the strong winds to its advantage.

Lions hold on to beat Longhorns 7-6 in defensive tilt

After more than 15 months, the Battle Mountain High School football team was back on Tim Knight Field in its second game of the shortened spring season in northern Nevada. The Longhorns took on rival Yerington and if you were looking for offense, you were in the wrong place. Both defenses dominated the night as the two squads combined for 14 punts. Yerington used a touchdown late in the first half to hold on for a 7-6 victory.

BMHS boys soccer ties White Pine, loses to West Wendover

The Battle Mountain High School boys soccer team stands at 0-1-1 on the season after its first two matches. The Longhorns opened the year on Saturday, March 6, at home with a 3-3 tie to White Pine.

Lady Longhorns' girls golf match postponed

The Battle Mountain High School girls golf match scheduled for last Thursday at Mountain View Golf Course in Battle Mountain was postponed due to snow.

Battle Mountain begins season with rout of West Wendover

After having the opening week of the shortened six-week spring season off, the Battle Mountain High School football team was finally able to get on the field last Friday in West Wendover. The Longhorns scored all of their 42 points in the first half on their way to a 43-0 victory over the Wolverines. “The kids played hard today,” said BMHS coach Mitch Domagala. “They have been chomping at the bit to get on the field and today they took advantage of the opportunity.”

Battle Mountain wins once during busy week

The Battle Mountain High School volleyball team was busy last week, with three matches on the schedule slate. The Lady Longhorns were in Lovelock on Tuesday, March 9, and came away with an exciting five set win — 24-26, 25-19, 10-25, 25-16 and 15-8. Addi Slaybaugh collected 10 of Battle Mountain’s 25 kills on the night, as Brynnlee Freeman and Anahi Lopez each added six of their own. Lolly Argueta had two kills and Marena Fuller one.

The Battle Mountain High School girls soccer team picked up its first win of the season this past Saturday at home, with a 4-2 triumph over West Wendover.

Battle Mountain girls golfers start season in West Wendover

After a long wait, the Battle Mountain girls golf team hit the links for the first time with a trip to West Wendover last Thursday. In the first appearnce of the year, the Lady Longhorns posted a number of strong scores. "It was great that we actually got to play golf," said BMHS coach Jayson Cutler. "It was unique wearing masks around the club house, but everyone was well adjusted to it.

Battle Mountain rallies to beat West Wendover in four sets

It took a while for the Battle Mountain High School volleyball team to shake off the nerves and rust in its return to the floor for the first time in 15 months. The Lady Longhorns were on their home floor on Friday night to host West Wendover. After dropping the first set 25-21, Battle Mountain bounced back to win the final three sets 25-18, 25-17 and 25-22.
