The Battle Mountain High School girls soccer team dropped a Northern 2A match to North Tahoe on Saturday 6-0. Battle Mountain travels to Lovelock on Friday to play Pershing County and are in Ely on Friday to play White Pine.
While outdoor sports were canceled in Lake Tahoe this past weekend, the Battle Mountain High School volleyball team was able to get its Northern 2A openers finished at Incline and North Tahoe this past weekend.
The Battle Mountain High School girls golf team headed east on Interstate 80 on Thursday, Sept. 8, for a Northern 2A tournament at Chimney Creek Golf Course in Wells.
What has been a common occurrence in the northern Nevada and California areas the past couple years, smoke from fires forced the cancelation and postponing of high school events. Smoke for the Mosquito Fire in California moved into the Lake Tahoe area on Friday, a spot where a number of Lowry High School teams were scheduled to compete.
The National High School Finals may have ended just over a month ago, but a new season for the Nevada High School Rodeo Association got under way Aug. 27-28 with the Carson/Douglas rodeo. Emma Garijo, who finishes second at the national finals in pole bending in July, picked up where she left off and won the average in the event with a time of 41.733 seconds.
Nevada Football announced a home-and-home series with Kansas, which will see the Wolf Pack host the Jayhawks at Mackay Stadium in 2023.
The Battle Mountain High School cross country team made its way to western Nevada and the Nevada Twilight Classic this past Thursday which was hosted by the University of Nevada at Rancho San Rafael Park. The Longhorns’ Eli Colver and Sean Doney competed in the JV boys race, which was 4,100 meters. Colver finished 37th in a time of 18 minutes, 27 seconds and Doney was 74th at 19:57.
The Battle Mountain High School volleyball team hit the road to Ely this past Friday night for a non-conference match-up with White Pine. The match went back-and-forth, with the Bobcats winning the last two sets to claim the victory. Battle Mountain easily won the first set 25-12, but White Pine turned the tables on the Lady Longhorns and even the match with the same 25-12 win in the second set.
As temperatures climbed above 100 degrees over the Labor Day weekend, the Battle Mountain High School girls soccer team made its home debut against Sage Ridge and Yerington.
After opening up its season with its toughest game schedule, the Battle Mountain High School football team made its home debut this past Friday night on an unseasonably hot night at Tim Knight Field. The Longhorns were just as hot as the temperatures, evening their season record at 1-1 with a 43-0 win over White Pine. “We did some good things tonight and it was nice to be on our home field,” said BMHS coach Tucker Vezina. “The south teams like to throw the ball and this was a good test for us. There are a couple things we need to clean up on the back end. The big emphasis all week was to defend Tim Knight Field.”
A week after dropping all five of it matches at the White Pine tournament in Ely, the Battle Mountain High School volleyball team switched some things up for its home debut this past weekend.
The McDermitt High School volleyball team made its season debut on Thursday, Aug. 26, with a road trip to Pyramid Lake. The Laker knocked off the Lady Bulldogs in three sets, 25-19, 25-10 and 25-17.
Nevada Football claimed a pair of weekly Mountain West honors, as cornerback Isaiah Essissima was named the conference’s Defensive Player of the Week, and kicker Brandon Talton Special Teams Player of the Week.
This year, the Battle Mountains High School girls golf team has eight girls that have joined the team. This past Thursday, the Lady Longhorns took two of those girls to Spring Creek to begin the new fall season. Vanessa Gillogley shot a 152 and Hannah Johnson carded a 176.
Fall sports for Battle Mountain High School will kick into high gear this weekend. After holding a Green/Gold scrimmage this past Friday, the Battle Mountain football team will travel to Winnemucca on Friday to play Lowry at 7 p.m. It is the first meeting between the two schools since 2017,
