The Batlle Mountain High School wrestling team made the short trip to Winnemucca this past weekend for the annual Cody Louk Invitational at the Winnemucca Event Center. Liam Bundrock brought back the 138-pound title and Wyatt Madalena was the runner-up at 157 pounds.
With eight freshmen and sophomores on the squad, the Battle Mountain High School girls basketball team have caught fire with seven straight wins to begin the season. The Lady Longhorns went on the road this past weekend and beat Pershing County 39-29 and Coral Academy Science 42-17 to move to 2-0 in the Northern 2A.
Perhaps tougher than thought to be, the Battle Mountain High School boys basketball team opened Northern 2A action with road wins at Pershing County and Coral Academy Science. The Longhorns shot just 22% from the 3-point line on Friday against the Mustangs, as Pershing County stayed within striking distance the entire night. Battle Mountain eventually held on for a 54-50 victory.
Battle Mountain Northern Nevada Aquatic swimmers Nevaeh Serna, Saige Bakker, Weston Reiva and Barrett Buffington swam at the King of the Hill Challenge at the Moana Pool from Oct. 18-20.
The Battle Mountain High School football team was in a must-win situation as it traveled to the Utah/Nevada border to face West Wendover on Friday. A Longhorn loss would mean staying home for the postseason, while a win kept the season alive.
The Battle Mountain High School volleyball team saw its season end in the opening round of the Northern 2A Regional Championships in Incline with a three-set loss to the host Highlanders. Incline, the No. 4 seed in the regional tournament defeated fifth-seeded Battle Mountain 25-18, 25-10, 25-12. The Longhorns finished the season 12-17 overall and 8-10 in the Northern 2A.
Four members of the Battle Mountain High School girls cross country team made the long trek to Veterans Park in Boulder City this past Saturday for the NIAA 2A State Cross Country Championships. Longhorn junior Danielle Madalena finished eighth in the 5,000-meter race with a time of 23 minutes, 42.30 seconds.
For the first time in school history, the Battle Mountain High School girls cross country team has qualified for the NIAA 2A State Championships as a team. The Longhorns finished third with 44 points at the Northern 2A Regional Championships this past Friday at Rancho San Rafael Park next to the University of Nevada.
As it was in the Northern 3A this past weekend, the Northern 2A saw a little shakeup in the standings, as the Battle Mountain High School football team lost 20-19 to Coral Academy on Saturday afternoon at Reno High School. The Longhorns entered the contest in third place at 3-1 in the Northern 2A and are still third at 3-2 but the standings are much closer for the final playoff spots.
Three members of the Battle Mountain High School cross country team made the short trip to Winnemucca on Saturday morning for the Lowry Invitational at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course. The two races were pushed back about 30 minutes due to frost on the golf course after the cold night put temperatures in the 20s and 30s. Danielle Madalena had the best finish for Battle Mountain in 21st with a time of 24:37.
The Battle Mountain High School girls golf team featured three golfers at the NIAA 2A State Girls Golf Championship last week at Ruby View Golf Course in Elko. Jaylee Jorgenson paced the Longhorns with a two-day total of 273 to finish 26th.
The Battle Mountain High School volleyball team closed out its home portion of the schedule with two Northern 2A matches this past weekend. Battle Mountain took on league-leading and undefeated Pershing County on Friday and lost in three sets 25-14, 25-14, 25-23. Battle Mountain bounced back on senior day on Saturday with a three-set sweep of Coral Academy 25-19, 25-17, 25-23.
The Battle Mountain High School football team bounced back with a 27-22 win over Yerington on Friday night in Yerington, The victory kept the Longhorns in third-place in the Northern 2A at 3-1.
After dropping five of its six previous matches, the Battle Mountain High School volleyball team collected two important Northern 2A victories on the road this past weekend. Battle Mountain defeated Silver Stage on Friday 20-25, 25-18, 25-14. 25-17 and Sierra Lutheran 17-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-17 on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons won the first meeting this season in five sets, as the Lady Longhorns improved to 7-8 in the Northern 2A.
The Battle Mountain High School cross country team headed back out on the road last Friday to Wells for the Wells Invitational at Chimney Rock Golf Course. The Longhorns featured four runners in the girls 3.1-mile race, with Danielle Madalena placing 27th with a time of 23:52.
