Lady Longhorns miss state bid with semifinal loss to Lakers

Even though it’s been a wild ride for the Battle Mountain High School girls basketball team, the young squad of mostly freshmen and sophomores still had a chance of qualifying for the state tournament in Elko. Battle Mountain entered last weekend’s Northern 2A Regional Championships in Lovelock as the No. 3 seed against Oasis Academy of Fallon.

Battle Mountain has season end in opening-round loss to Yerington

The postseason often throws in some surprise come tournament time and unfortunately it was on the wrong side of the scoreboard for the Battle Mountain boys basketball team. The Northern 2A Regional Championships opened on Thursday. Feb. 13, at Pershing County High School in Lovelock, with No. 6 seed Yerington upsetting Battle Mountain 78-67 in the quarterfinals. The Longhorns finished the season at 17-8 overall.

Battle Mountain NNA swim team kicks off new season in Carson City

The Battle Mountain Northern Nevada Aquatics swim team began its new season with a pair of meets. The 2025 Blizzard Blast Swim meet, season-opener, was held Jan. 17-19, at the Carson Aquatic Facility. Beckett Buffington competed in the boys 9-10-year-old division and placed 10th in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 4 minutes, 10.18 seconds. He finished 12th in the 100-yard backstroke (2:06.57), 15th in the 25-yard freestyle (22.21), 16th in the 100-yard freestyle (1:57.45) and 18th in both the 50-yard backstroke (1:01.16) and the 50-yard freestyle (51.92).

Lady Longhorns collect three important league wins

For most of the year, the Northern 2A girls basketball league has avoided chaos — however, as the regular season comes to a close, it’s now in full force in the conference. North Tahoe came in undefeated in the Northern 2A, but lost twice (Pershing County and Yerington) opening the race for Yerington, Battle Mountain and Pershing County.

Battle Mountain continues Northern 2A dominance with another regional title

After seeing the Northern 2A dual championship go to Pershing County High School the week before, the Battle Mountain High School wrestling team bounced back win the Northern 2A Regional Championship this past Saturday in Lovelock and the Mustangs’ home floor. The Longhorns defeated the Mustangs 235-219.50, with Eureka (108), Yerington (96) and Wells (95.5) completing the top five.

BMHS boys collect two wins

With the regular season coming to an end this week, the Battle Mountain High School boys basketball team did its best to stay within the top three in the Northern 2A standings. The Longhorns did that, winning two of its three games to improve to 12-4 in league play. The only loss was to West Wendover on Thursday night in Battle Mountain, with the Wolverines winning 54-40. West Wendover paces the Northern 2A at 15-1, followed by Incline at 13-1.

Battle Mountain boys continue winning ways, run streak to eight games

With the regular season coming to a close quickly, the Battle Mountain High School boys basketball team has been in a must-win mode after starting the Northern 2A season at 2-3. Since its last loss on Jan. 2, to West Wendover in overtime, Battle Mountain has reeled off eight straight wins to remain within striking distance of Incline and West Wendover for the top spot in the league. Following six straight contests at home, Battle Mountain was on the road this past weekend and collected a 76-56 win over Oasis Academy on Friday in Fallon and completed a season-sweep of Yerington on Saturday with a 55-49 victory.

Lady Longhorns split games on latest road trip to Oasis Academy and Yerington

After six straight games on its home floor, the Battle Mountain High School girls basketball team hit the road this past weekend for two Northern 2A contests in Fallon and Yerington. Battle Mountain completed the season sweep of Oasis Academy on Friday with a 33-21 victory over the Bighorns.

Battle Mountain boys sweep Northern 2A games with Oasis Academy, Yerington

The Battle Mountain High School boys basketball team stayed in line in a crowded top five in the Northern 2A, with a pair of wins on its home floor this past weekend. The Longhorns had little trouble with Fallon’s Oasis Academy, winning 75-38 on Friday night and Battle Mountain extended its win streak to four, with a 52-37 victory over Yerington on Saturday.

Lady Longhorns split with Bighorns, Lions

The Battle Mountain High School girls basketball team remained in a spot for a high seed at next month’s regional tournament, despite seeing its five-game winning streak come to an end this past Saturday. The Lady Longhorns completed the first half of the Northern 2A schedule with a 46-27 win over Fallon’s Oasis Academy on Friday night but lost in league play for the first time since Dec. 20, with a 50-34 loss to Yerington.

Lady Longhorns improve to 6-1

After having 11 days off over Christmas break, the Battle Mountain High School girls basketball team jumped back into the fire with three games in consecutive days last week. The Lady Longhorns improved to 11-2 overall and 6-1 in league play after picking up a 38-37 overtime win on the road at West Wendover on Thursday, a 63-18 victory over Silver Stage and a 36-12 win over Sierra Lutheran at home on Saturday.

Bundrock wins 138-pound class at Cody Louk Invitational

The Batlle Mountain High School wrestling team made the short trip to Winnemucca this past weekend for the annual Cody Louk Invitational at the Winnemucca Event Center. Liam Bundrock brought back the 138-pound title and Wyatt Madalena was the runner-up at 157 pounds.

Lady Longhorns run win streak to seven

With eight freshmen and sophomores on the squad, the Battle Mountain High School girls basketball team have caught fire with seven straight wins to begin the season. The Lady Longhorns went on the road this past weekend and beat Pershing County 39-29 and Coral Academy Science 42-17 to move to 2-0 in the Northern 2A.

Battle Mountain boys tipoff Northern 2A season with a pair of road wins

Perhaps tougher than thought to be, the Battle Mountain High School boys basketball team opened Northern 2A action with road wins at Pershing County and Coral Academy Science. The Longhorns shot just 22% from the 3-point line on Friday against the Mustangs, as Pershing County stayed within striking distance the entire night. Battle Mountain eventually held on for a 54-50 victory.

Battle Mountain NNA swimmers compete in King of the Hill Challenge in Reno

Battle Mountain Northern Nevada Aquatic swimmers Nevaeh Serna, Saige Bakker, Weston Reiva and Barrett Buffington swam at the King of the Hill Challenge at the Moana Pool from Oct. 18-20.
