It was a pretty good week for three Humboldt County cowgirls at the National High School Finals Rodeo that concluded this past Saturday night at the Sweetwater Events Complex in Rock Springs, Wyo.

After taking the month of July off, the Winnemucca Junior High School girls basketball team will hold a few more open gyms for the upcoming season.
The Winnemucca junior golf season kicked off on Wednesday, July 10, with the Emelie Dillon scramble, as members of the Winnemucca Ladies Golf Club joined the youngsters.

The long high school rodeo season is hitting an end with the beginning of the National High School Finals Rodeo in Rock Springs, Wyo., on Sunday. The rodeo runs through July 20, with the top 20 finals. A number of cowboys and cowgirls from the Humboldt County and Battle Mountain rodeo clubs will compete.
The Winnemucca Junior All-Stars went a perfect 3-0 last week at the District 3 Tournament in Elko.
Lowry High School sophomore Txema Bengochea was named to Northern 3A East second team at shortstop and an honorable mention choice in the Northern 3A for his play this year. In 25 games this season, Bengochea hit .279, with 19 hits, 12 runs scored, three RBI and a double.
Ladies Golf Results —
A pair of Lowry High School senior finished out their softball career by being named to the Northern 3A all-league first team and 3A all-state team. Savannah Stoker, who set the all-time Nevada home run record with 53 and finished third on the all-time RBI list with 214 was named the Northern 3A East Player of the Year.
Lowry High School had 19 student/athletes travel to Reno on May 30-31 for the 34th annual Northern Nevada weight competition at McQueen High School. The athletes competed in the squat, bench and power clean.

The long season for junior high school cowboys and cowgirls has hit its national finals, which begins Sunday at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines, Iowa. Five Humboldt County cowboys and cowgirls will compete, as well as a pair of Battle Mountain Rodeo Club members.
