Lowry brings home three individual champions

One of the biggest wrestling tournaments left on the schedule for high school teams is the Kiwanis Invitational in Spring Creek.Lowry High School, along with schools from Idaho, Oregon and northern and southern Nevada were in the eastern Nevada city this past weekend.

The Lowry High School junior varsity girls basketball team continues to make easy work of its opponents in the quest for an undefeated season.The Lady Bucks (8-0 Division I-A North, 17-0 overall) disposed of Spring Creek 49-12 on Friday, Jan. 16. Lowry held Spring Creek without a field goal for the first 14 minutes of the game and led 18-1 in the second quarter at the time.

The 2014 Lowry High School spring sports night for athletes and parents will be held Thursday, Feb. 12, at 6 p.m. in the Lowry auditorium.

Bucks have eight grapplers in finals

FERNLEY - In its final tournament test before the postseason, the Lowry High School wrestling team blew away the field at the Vaquero Invitational this past weekend in Fernley. The Buckaroos finished the weekend with 310 points, easily outdistancing Battle Mountain with 177. Churchill County was third at 159.50. Yerington (140) and Fernley (136) rounded out the top five.

Lowry wrestlers host league duals this weekend

What started in December 2009, may potentially turn in to a Nevada state record for the Lowry High School wrestling team this weekend.The Buckaroos, winners of 101 consecutive duals, host the Division I-A North Duals on Friday and Saturday at the Winnemucca Event Center.

Run to the playoffs begins now

It's crazy to think, but the postseason for winter sports is creeping up for McDermitt and Lowry high schools. With just three weeks left in the regular season, both Humboldt County schools look to be in good shape come playoff time.The McDermitt girls basketballteam finished the first half of the Division IV East schedule undefeated, which included a 55-48 win at Eureka this past Friday. The Vandals have played in the last two state championship games.

Buckaroos sweep four games

The McDermitt and Lowry high school basketball teams were on the road this past weekend, with mixed results.The McDermitt girls stayed undefeated in the Division IV east at 5-0 and improved to 15-3 overall with a 55-47 victory over Eureka, the defending regional champions. The Lady Bulldogs have sole possession of first place in the league by two games.

Sand Dune Diggers keep top spot in pool standings

Sand Dune Diggers held on to their lead in the Winnemucca Pool League standing, defeating Outlaws 11-6 in week 15 action. Sand Dune Diggers is 10-4 and has earned 160 out of a possible 238 points.

Energy crisis -

A Ford F-250 collided with a power pole on West Sixth Street Sunday morning and knocked out power to 365 customers including St. Paul's Catholic Church. Power was out for about one hour beginning at about 10:23 a.m in the vicinity of Sonoma Heights. NV Energy crews were able to isolate the damage and restored power to all but nine customers. Those customers had their power restored at about 3:15 p.m., said Faye Andersen, spokesperson for NV Energy. Winnemucca Police officials said the accident is still under investigation. Andersen reminds customers that downed power lines are extremely dangerous and to keep clear.

Lowry to induct three in to Hall of Fame

Ceremony to take place after girls basketball game on Saturday

Lowry High School will induct three new members into its Hall of Fame on Saturday afternoon. Dr. Robbie Grant, John McNinch and Tina Marie Echeto Maestrejuan will be inducted after the girls varsity basketball game against Truckee at approximately 2:15 p.m.
