Lowry fall sports night to be held Aug. 13

The 2014 Lowry High School fall sports night for athletes and parents will be held Wednesday, Aug. 13, at 6:30 p.m. in the Lowry auditorium.

Winnemucca 10-11 All-Stars taking part in Nevada State Tournament

Mother Nature wreaked havoc over the first two days of the Little League Nevada State Tournament at the Governors Field in Carson City. Play on Saturday was pushed back more than two hours after thunderstorms and rain rolled through the area. Play didn't conclude until after midnight. The Winnemucca 10-11 All-Stars lost their first round game 14-0 to Mountain Ridge of Henderson. All of the games on Sunday were canceled due to severe thunderstorms in Carson City that left flooding in parts of the area. Winnemucca was scheduled to play Washoe on Monday evening. The tournament concludes on Wednesday.

Squad earned numerous awards at four-day camp

The Lowry High School cheerleaders returned from their four-day camp at Boise State with a number of awards and three All-Americans.

Stremler finishes ninth in saddle bronc at National High School Rodeo Finals

Montero places seventh in second go-around of goat tying

Clay Stremler turned in a ninth-place finish at the National High School Finals Rodeo that concluded this past Saturday in Rock Springs, Wyo.Stremler was sixth after the first go-around that concluded last Wednesday morning and he completed his second ride last Wednesday night with a score of 64 points to finish second in the performance and seventh in the go-around. Stremler, who won the Nevada state title in saddle bronc, advanced to the short go-around on Saturday but didn't record a score and finished ninth overall. Stremler rode as an independent.

Lowry girls soccer team to hold junior camp

Melanie Rasor and Lowry High School soccer will host its annual soccer camp from Aug. 11-15 on the soccer field at Lowry High School. Rasor is the new varsity girls soccer coach.All boys and girls who are incoming kindergarten through ninth graders are invited to participate. Kindergarten and first graders will play from 5 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. for $50 per player. Second through ninth graders will play from 5 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. for $75 per player. Join Lowry soccer coaches and members of the Lowry girls soccer program as they help improve your fundamental soccer skills. The camp is filled with fun drills and competitions that are all designed to help you become a better soccer player.You may register on the first day of camp, but to guarantee a t-shirt and ball, you must register by July 21. Andy Mendoza won the Doc Verner memorial junior golf tournament with an 8-over par 80 during the Wednesday event at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course. More than 30 junior golfers competed in the tournament. Hunter Dimock (90) was second.

Lowry High School announces starting times and dates for fall practice

The beginning of the fall sports season for high school athletes is just a couple weeks away, with the Lowry High School football team opening practice on Monday, Aug. 11, from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. as part of the NIAA heat acclimatization period that lasts until Wednesday, Aug. 13.The first day of non-contact drills begin on Thursday, Aug. 14, and the first day of contact drills will take place on Monday, Aug. 18.

Ladies Golf Club holds Nassau tournament

Chompoo Landt shot a low net score of 64 to win the first flight of the Winnemucca Ladies Golf Club Nassau tournament Tuesday at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course.Terri Kracaw was low net on the front nine in the first flight with a 34.5 and Candace Puls was low net on the second nine at 36.
