Century Club barbecue to be held Saturday, Aug. 24

WINNEMUCCA - The Winnemucca Century Club, the booster club for Lowry High School athletics, will hold its annual membership drive barbecue on Saturday, Aug. 24, at 6 p.m. at Pioneer Park.

Lowry cheerleaders to hold camp

WINNEMUCCA - The Lowry High School cheerleading team will be holding a camp for girls ages 5 - 12.The camp will take place from Monday, Aug. 19, through Friday, Aug. 23, from 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. in the new gym at the high school.The Lowry cheerleaders will serve as coaches and teach dance, chants, cheers and stunting. Registration dates are Wednesday and Thursday from noon - 1 p.m. at the new gym in the high school. Tryouts for Lowry volleyball team begin next Monday

WINNEMUCCA - Tryouts for the Lowry High School volleyball team will take place on Monday, Aug. 19, and Tuesday, Aug. 20. Freshmen and sophomores will tryout from 7 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. and juniors and seniors will go from 9 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. All grades will be back at the school from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. The first official practice will be Wednesday, Aug. 21.All freshmen and junior must have a new physical exam. All sophomores and seniors must have a physical exam on file at Lowry High School. All required paperwork must be submitted in order to be allowed to try out. That includes a physical exam form, NIAA concussion prevention form, NIAA alcohol/tobacco/drug policy form and parental permission form. Paperwork can be picked up at Lowry High School. The Lady Bucks are interested in fielding a freshmen team this season. WINNEMUCCA - The Frontier Community Coalition is hosting the second annual Louie Peraldo Memorial Golf tournament to honor longtime Winnemucca resident Louie Peraldo, who passed away in 2008.

Baker earn All-American honors at Boise State

JV and varsity squads earn numerous awards at four-day camp

WINNEMUCCA - The Lowry High School varsity and junior varsity cheerleaders returned from their four-day camp at Boise State, with numerous awards and one All-American.The varsity cheerleaders won a handful of first-place awards at the camp, which was held from July 17 - 20. The Buckaroos won the Spirit and Leadership awards as part of their stay at the camp.

WJHS girls basketball teams to hold open gym

WINNEMUCCA -The Winnemucca Junior High School seventh and eighth-grade girls basketball teams will be holding an open gym from Monday, Aug. 19, through Wednesday, Aug. 21, from 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. at WJHS for those interested in trying out for the team this fall. Players interested in trying out for the team are encouraged to come, as this will be a time to work on their skills. All students trying out for basketball must have a physical completed before tryouts are held. The physical is good for all sports for both years at WJHS. A player will not need another physical completed unless she is injured and placed on a medical excuse by a doctor. Once a physical has been completed by a doctor, it can be returned to the office at WJHS.Tryouts for the respective teams will start at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 26, (first day of school). Paperwork can be picked up from the main office and must be completed and turned in to coaches prior to tryouts on Aug. 26.

Lowry High School football team kicks off new year of fall sports

Nearly 100 players turned out for the opening days of practice for the Lowry High School football team. The Buckaroos went through three days of heat acclimation practice that ended on Wednesday. Full contact drills are not permitted until Monday, so the Buckaroos will continue non-contact drills until that time. Lowry opens its season on Thursday, Aug. 29, with a non-conference game against Battle Mountain.
