WINNEMUCCA - Several students were singled out by faculty at Lowry High School for student of the month recognition.
A total of 124 medals were awarded to the Winnemucca Grammar School students during an assembly on Thursday, Feb. 28. These medals are awarded for independent reading. Students read for 15 minutes to receive a step. They receive a medal for 100 steps, which is 25 hours of independent reading time, 200 steps which is 50 hours, and 300 steps, which is 75 hours. The ultimate goal is 400 steps, which is 100 hours of reading time, for each student of the school. The medals were presented by Capt. Bill Dalley, Sgt. Dave Garrison and officer Dulce Obregon of the Winnemucca Police Department. See more winners on page 27.
The Lowry High School junior varsity baseball team improved to 7-3-1 on the season, with two wins in three games against Lahontan League schools this past weekend in Winnemucca.
WINNEMUCCA - Sand Dune Diggers (20-2) defeated Losers 11-6 to capture the regular season championship in the Winnemucca Pool League. Sand Dune Diggers finished with 249 out of a possible 374 points.
Lowry High School was the place to be for junior varsity softball action this past weekend as the Lady Bucks played host to a Ruby Mountain/Lahontan League crossover. Schools from Elko, Spring Creek, Dayton, Fernley and Fallon made the trip to Winnemucca for three games apiece.
