Julia Dufurrena, a 2012 graduate of Lowry High School, and a current member of the College of Southern Idaho women's basketball team, received a $1,000 scholarship from Midway Gold in Ely. Dufurrena, who was named to the Dean's List as College of Southern Idaho, earned the scholarship by making a half court shot at White Pine High School. Midway Gold sponsored a $1,000 scholarship if no one else made the shot during the year. The contest was held between the Lowry and White Pine girls and boys basketball games. No one else made the shot and the mine recently awarded the scholarship to Dufurrena. Midway Gold has spurred quite a bit of interest in the Ely community about the contest, as a number of people all over town are practicing.
