The McDermitt High School girls basketball team continued its winning ways, this time way down in southern Nevada. The Lady Bulldogs traveled to Beatty for the Beatty Bash.
It has been a few years but now you can see some smiles coming from the McDermitt High School boys basketball team. After having this weekend’s Super 8 Classic in Susanville canceled, the Bulldogs traveled to Beatty Bash, where they got five games in over two days.
It was a mixed bag of results for the Lowry High School girls basketball team, who faced a pair of Northern 3A West schools in crossover play. The games do not count for the league standings. Lowry started red hot against South Tahoe on Friday night in Winnemucca, leading by as many as 17 points in the opening quarter, eventually winning 54-39. It was a quick turnaround, as Lowry boarded the bus on Saturday morning to for Reno play North Valleys.
If there is anything we have learned in the first two weeks of the season, the Lowry High School boys basketball team is going to be a fun group to watch. With new coach Brandon Eastman and long-time assistant Dave Schwartz helping, the Buckaroos have shown new excitement on the floor, after struggling the past few years to find a cohesive unit. That was no different last week, as Lowry took on three Northern 3A West opponents.
The Lowry High School wrestling team found itself back atop the standings of its own Cody Louk Invitational on the strength of seven wrestlers in the finals. Pete Bengochea at 113 pounds, Kruz Gomez (126), Randy Patterson (175) and Jhett Harber (190) captured individual titles for the Buckaroos. Edward Jones (106), Erick Valencia (165) and Logan Jonas (285) each finished second.

There was a ton of hardware and success on Pat Hart Court on Saturday afternoon, as the three-time reigning 3A state champion, Lowry Buckaroos hit the floor for the first time this season. On the other side, Pyramid Lake made the trip to Winnemucca for the second time in three years.
RENO — Three players have signed National Letters of Intent to play basketball for Nevada next season, as announced by Head Coach Amanda Levens on Wednesday. The class features two guards and a forward, all from different states (Nevada, California and Arizona).
The latest stop for the Nevada High School Rodeo Association was at the Carson/Douglas rodeo from Nov. 1-3. The Humboldt County Rodeo Club came back with a number of individual champions. Brynn Barto claimed the average win in barrel racing with a two-go time of 36.407 seconds.

The two long-running rivals met again, this time on a cool and crisp November night in Elko in the opening round of the Northern 3A playoffs.

WINNEMUCCA — Winnemucca United has wrapped up another successful season of recreational soccer, marking its second year of providing a vibrant sporting environment for over 430 boys and girls aged 4 to 14. From August to October, young athletes took to the fields, showcasing their skills and teamwork during a season filled with excitement and camaraderie.
The Winnemucca Ladies’ Golf Club’s regular season wrapped up Oct. 29, with the Presidents’ Cup and their annual awards luncheon. Since the weather was not being cooperative in letting the ladies play nine holes for the President’s Cup, they had an indoor putting challenge instead, using a practice putting green that Laurie Pickett provided.
