RENO — Three players have signed National Letters of Intent to play basketball for Nevada next season, as announced by Head Coach Amanda Levens on Wednesday. The class features two guards and a forward, all from different states (Nevada, California and Arizona).
The latest stop for the Nevada High School Rodeo Association was at the Carson/Douglas rodeo from Nov. 1-3. The Humboldt County Rodeo Club came back with a number of individual champions. Brynn Barto claimed the average win in barrel racing with a two-go time of 36.407 seconds.
Lowry High School senior Vanessa Lott was named to the Northern 3A East second team for her play this fall for the Buckaroos. The all-league selections are chosen by the coaches.
When the Lowry High School football team took on Elko on a hot September Saturday afternoon for homecoming, the Buckaroos made a couple key miscues that prevented an upset victory. The two long-running rivals met again, this time on a cool and crisp November night in Elko in the opening round of the Northern 3A playoffs.
With just six players, the McDermitt High School volleyball team made its way to Elko this past Saturday for an opportunity to advance to state at the Northern 1A East Regional Championships.
WINNEMUCCA — Winnemucca United has wrapped up another successful season of recreational soccer, marking its second year of providing a vibrant sporting environment for over 430 boys and girls aged 4 to 14. From August to October, young athletes took to the fields, showcasing their skills and teamwork during a season filled with excitement and camaraderie.
The Winnemucca Ladies’ Golf Club’s regular season wrapped up Oct. 29, with the Presidents’ Cup and their annual awards luncheon. Since the weather was not being cooperative in letting the ladies play nine holes for the President’s Cup, they had an indoor putting challenge instead, using a practice putting green that Laurie Pickett provided.
The most successful season in more than a decade for the Lowry High School girls cross country team ended this past Saturday with a fourth-place finish at the NIAA 3A State Championships at Veterans Park in Boulder City. The Buckaroos qualified for the state meet for the first time since winning the state championship in 2009.
Throughout the season, the Lowry High School girls soccer team was enjoying its most successful year in league play with a shot at hosting a postseason match on its home field for the first time in more than 15 years. The Northern 3A East was top-heavy at the front with Churchill County, Lowry and Elko.
From 2000-09 there was no better girls cross country in Nevada than Lowry High School. The Buckaroos won nine state championships in that span and was second on a tiebreaker in 2006 or Lowry would have won 10 consecutive titles. The run as a full team ended in 2009 and state championship meets went dry until this fall.
The offense was back in high gear for the Lowry High School football team put up 41 more points on Friday night in South Tahoe, clinching a playoff spot with a 41-14 victory over the Vikings on Friday night. After giving up 79 points and over 700 yards of rushing to Fernley the week before, the Buckaroos defense was much better. Lowry improved to 2-6 overall and 2-4 in the Northern 3A.
The Lowry High School volleyball team made its last road trip of the season to Fallon on Friday to take on Churchill County, who sits near the top of the Northern 3A East standings.
Ladies Golf —
When you think of cross country the first thing that doesn’t come to mind is a frost delay. The Lowry Invitational this year at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course was ran on a Saturday this year. The only problem was that Mother Nature showed her mean side, with temperatures plummeting.
The Lowry High School girls soccer team is headed back to the postseason for the second consecutive year. The only question that remains is where the opening round game will be played. The Lady Bucks collected three wins in Northern 3A East action last weekend, beginning with a 9-0 victory at Battle Mountain on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
