After a couple of weeks off, the Battle Mountain High School football team was back on the field this past Friday at Dayton in a non-conference game. Dayton dropped out of the Northern 3A this year and is playing as an independent and a mostly 2A schedule.

McDermitt volleyball team knocked off by Eureka, Round Mountain

The McDermitt High School volleyball team made its home debut this past Friday against Eureka in a 1A East battle. All three sets were close, with the Vandals pulling away for a 25-18, 25-23, 25-20 victory. Breena Crutcher provided the first two points for the Lady Bulldogs in the opening set with a kill and block, when Eureka went on a 10-3 run to lead 12-5.

Lady Longhorns volleyball drop four matches in Northern 2A play

The Battle Mountain High School volleyball team is still looking for its first win in the Northern 2A, after dropping its last four matches in league play. The Lady Longhorns are 0-5 in league play and 6-12 overall.

Buckaroo cross country runs in Fernley, North Tahoe

The Lowry High School cross country team was back on the course on Friday, Sept. 1, for the Fast Fernley 4K. Brooklyn Swensen, a junior for the Buckaroos, placed eighth with a time of 20 minutes, 23 seconds.

The Lowry High School boys soccer team continued is seven-match road trip to start the season with two more matches in Elko County. Lowry traveled to Spring Creek this past Friday and suffered a 2-1 loss to the Spartans. The Buckaroos moved over to Elko on Saturday and lost 5-0 to the Indians.

The Lowry High School girls soccer team made its home debut this past weekend with Northern 3A East matches against Spring Creek and Elko. The Lady Bucks beat the Spartans 4-3 on Friday and lost 5-4 to Elko on Saturday. Lowry sits at 3-1 in league play and 5-3 overall.

Lowry overcomes slow start to beat Sparks in Northern 3A opener

The Lowry High School football team overcame a slow start and early miscues to beat Sparks 33-13 in the Northern 3A opener on a rare Thursday night game in Winnemucca. The Buckaroos led 7-0 at halftime and got the offense going in the second half to improve to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the Northern 3A.

Pershing County JV dominates Portola on the field

The Pershing County High School JV football team has grown into a force to be reckoned with. According to coach Buzz Brooks, it’s due to the team’s dedication and teamwork. They finished undefeated last season and hope to do so again. Brooks credits several returning sophomores for a chunk of the team’s success.
