A’s relocation to Las Vegas approved by Major League Baseball owners

Major League Baseball (MLB) owners unanimously approved the relocation of the Oakland Athletics to Las Vegas on Thursday, allowing the team to officially obtain the many approvals needed in Southern Nevada surrounding the construction of a $1.5 billion ballpark on the Strip.

Fears to compete in the Vegas Tuffest Jr. World Championship

LAS VEGAS — Bryce Fears of the Humboldt County Rodeo Club has qualified to compete in the Vegas Tuffest Jr. World Championship in December. He will be one of over 1,000 entries from 29 different states including four provinces in Canada competing Dec. 6-13 at the Mike and Sherrylynn Johnson Vegas Tuffest Jr. World Championship which is held the first weekend of the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas.

Pershing County rally at state tournament falls short

It was agonizingly close. The Pershing County High School volleyball team nearly beat the Green Valley Christian Guardians in the semifinal match of the State championship games in Vegas last Friday. The Mustangs lasted five sets against the No. 1 seed from the Southern 2A 25-10, 25-16, 24-26, 24-26, 16-14.

McDermitt rallies to beat Round Mountain, knocked off by eventual state champion Smith Valley

With just six players and no substitutes, the McDermitt High School volleyball team embarked on the NIAA 1A State Championships last week at North Valleys High School and the Virginia Street Gym in Reno. It was the first time the Lady Bulldogs were back at the state tournament since 2010 and would need to avenge a loss earlier in the season to Round Mountain to get to the state semifinals.

PCHS slays Lincoln County, earns state title berth

Last Saturday, on a dazzling fall afternoon, the Pershing County Mustangs extended their nine-game winning streak. They beat Lincoln County 20-6, earning a shot at the 2A state title in Las Vegas. To make the win even sweeter it happened on the Mustangs' home field. It was the semifinal round of the NIAA State playoffs.
