PCHS volleyball beats Battle Mountain, West Wendover

Last week, the Pershing County High School volleyball team won both road matches on its only overnight road trip of the year. First, the Mustangs beat their rival school, Battle Mountain 25-15, 25-14, 25-23. Next, Pershing County vanquished the West Wendover Wolverines 25-13, 25-20, 25-16. The Mustangs stand at the top of the Northern 2A at 17-0 and have clinched the first-place position going into the Northern 2A Regional Championships at Incline High School on Nov. 1-2.

Lowry rolls past South Tahoe, clinches Northern 3A postseason berth

The offense was back in high gear for the Lowry High School football team put up 41 more points on Friday night in South Tahoe, clinching a playoff spot with a 41-14 victory over the Vikings on Friday night. After giving up 79 points and over 700 yards of rushing to Fernley the week before, the Buckaroos defense was much better. Lowry improved to 2-6 overall and 2-4 in the Northern 3A.

Lady Bucks knocked off by Greenwave

The Lowry High School volleyball team made its last road trip of the season to Fallon on Friday to take on Churchill County, who sits near the top of the Northern 3A East standings.

Battle Mountain split matches with Pershing County, Coral Academy

The Battle Mountain High School volleyball team closed out its home portion of the schedule with two Northern 2A matches this past weekend. Battle Mountain took on league-leading and undefeated Pershing County on Friday and lost in three sets 25-14, 25-14, 25-23. Battle Mountain bounced back on senior day on Saturday with a three-set sweep of Coral Academy 25-19, 25-17, 25-23.

University of Nevada, Reno statement regarding Oct. 26, volleyball match versus San José State

The University of Nevada, Reno would like to clarify certain points regarding the University of Nevada versus San José State University match on Oct. 26. On Oct. 13, a majority of the Wolf Pack women’s volleyball team issued a statement to the University informing it that the team had decided it was forfeiting the scheduled match with San José State University.

When you think of cross country the first thing that doesn’t come to mind is a frost delay. The Lowry Invitational this year at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course was ran on a Saturday this year. The only problem was that Mother Nature showed her mean side, with temperatures plummeting.

The Lowry High School girls soccer team is headed back to the postseason for the second consecutive year. The only question that remains is where the opening round game will be played. The Lady Bucks collected three wins in Northern 3A East action last weekend, beginning with a 9-0 victory at Battle Mountain on Tuesday, Oct. 15.

Cassinelli ties for third place at NIAA 3A State Golf Championships

It was smooth sailing weather wise for about 90% of the high school girls golf season. However, Mother Nature had other ideas on the second day of the NIAA 3A State Girls Golf Championships at Dayton Valley Country Club in Dayton.

PCHS soccer loses to Spring Creek; beats Quincy

The week for the Pershing County girls soccer week tested its stamina. Mid-week, the Mustangs traveled to Spring Creek and lost 8-0 to the Spartans. Next, Pershing County hosted the Quincy Trojans, beating the visitors 8-0. The Spartans and Mustangs are ranked fifth and sixth in the league, but Spring Creek dominated the game, especially in the first half.

Buckaroos split match with Wolverines, Bobcats

The Lowry High School boys soccer team completed its longest road trip of the season last weekend with matches in West Wendover and Ely. The Buckaroos were on the Nevada/Utah border on Friday afternoon to play West Wendover and lost 2-1.

The Battle Mountain High School football team bounced back with a 27-22 win over Yerington on Friday night in Yerington, The victory kept the Longhorns in third-place in the Northern 2A at 3-1.

The Pershing County High School volleyball team added two more wins to their collection this week. The Mustangs beat Yerington on the road on Friday 25-20, 18-25, 25-20, 25-16. On Saturday, they hosted the North Tahoe Lakers and won in five sets 25-9, 25-22, 20-25, 22-25, 15-9.

Lady Longhorn volleyball team collect two crucial wins on the road

After dropping five of its six previous matches, the Battle Mountain High School volleyball team collected two important Northern 2A victories on the road this past weekend. Battle Mountain defeated Silver Stage on Friday 20-25, 25-18, 25-14. 25-17 and Sierra Lutheran 17-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-17 on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons won the first meeting this season in five sets, as the Lady Longhorns improved to 7-8 in the Northern 2A.

Thomas posts second-place finish at Wells Invitational

As the postseason quickly approaches, the Lowry High School cross country team headed back out on the road last Friday to Wells for the Wells Invitational at Chimney Rock Golf Course. The Buckaroo featured seven runners in the girls 3.1-mile race, with sophomore Alyla Thomas earning a runner-up finish with a time of 20 minutes, 9 seconds.
