The Pershing County Mustangs basketball team ended their regular season last week with two league wins. On Tuesday, they hosted Silver Stage for senior night, defeating them 60-25. On Friday the Mustangs traveled to Fallon to beat Oasis Academy (53-40). The Mustangs came out strong against the Nighthawks.They were determined to see their seniors off with a win.
This past Saturday, the PCHS gym saw all-day wrestling action. Pershing County hosted the NIAA Class 2A Northern Region zone championship. The Mustangs qualified 11 wrestlers for the state tournament, scheduled for Feb. 16 in Bullhead City, Ariz.

If you heard this one before, here you go again — the Battle Mountain High School wrestling team is the Northern 2A champions once again. It was a little closer than in the past, as Battle Mountain won with 180.5 points, followed by Yerington (167), Pershing County (149), Coral Academy (113.5) and Eureka (84).
Coaches usually say freshmen are not freshmen when you get this late in the season. The Battle Mountain High School boys basketball team came into this year with a very young team of four freshen and two sophomores. There are just three seniors on the squad.

It was an up and down season for the Lowry High School boys basketball team. The Buckaroos were competitive in a majority of its Northern 3A East games but could not come away with a victory. It all came together for Lowry on senior night and Winterfest week on Friday with a 68-44 win over Dayton.
The regular season finale on Saturday afternoon provided fans in Winnemucca the latest heavyweight battle between the Lowry High School girls and Fernley. The two schools have been far above everyone else in the 3A and are considered some of the top teams in the state. The Lady Bucks and Vaqueros met four times last year – with Lowry winning just one game, the state championship.
The high school wrestling season comes to a conclusion on Friday with the NIAA State Championships at the Anderson Auto Group Fieldhouse in Bullhead City, Ariz.
The Pershing County boys basketball team lost to Yerington (58-44) and North Tahoe (55-48) this past week. They hosted Yerington on Tuesday and traveled to North Tahoe on Saturday. Pershing County now stands at 8-15, overall, and 7-9 in the 2A Northern league.
The Lowry High School wrestling team officially started its postseason run last weekend in Fallon with the Northern 3A duals. The Buckaroos lost just one dual — two the -time reigning state champion in Elko. Lowry was 10-1 over the weekend.
The Battle Mountain High School boys basketball team is currently looking at the No. 4 or No. 5 seed in the upcoming Northern 2A Regional Championships. Battle Mountain was busy last week with three games, beginning at home on Tuesday, Jan. 30, against league-leading West Wendover. The Wolverines, who are 16-0 in league play, held on for a 57-49 win.
