Lovelock celebrates love Annual wedding and vow renewal ceremony to be held on Feb. 14

LOVELOCK - Lovelock will hold its annual Valentine's Day wedding and vow renewals ceremony at the Lover's Lock Plaza this Valentine's Day. The multiple wedding and vow renewal event is sponsored each year by the Lovelock/Pershing County Chamber of Commerce.

State school nursing NASN affiliate board directors meet lawmakers in Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON - Deborah Pontius, a National Association of School Nurses (NASN) board director from Nevada, was among nursing leaders from across the nation who attended the NASN Board of Directors meeting earlier this month, and learned advocacy strategies to advance the goals of school nursing to improve children's health.

Those who missed the session can still be considered for the next round of interviews by completing an online application on the company's website. The website lists openings in Lovelock for temporary customer service representatives.

LOVELOCK - Just the other day, I heard an advertisement for bed bug control in your home. Most people of this generation have never seen a bed bug. Bed bug infestations were common in the United States before World War II. PCHS students compete in poetry contest Terry moves on to state competition

LOVELOCK - Nine Pershing County High School students took part in the Poetry Out Loud contest in the high school auditorium on Feb. 22. Students were judged on physical presence, voice and articulation, dramatic appropriateness, level of difficulty, evidence of understanding, overall performance and accuracy.

PCHS students to take part in Science Olympiad University of Nevada to host event this Saturday

RENO - Pershing County High School students will participate in the Nevada State Science Olympiad this weekend in Reno. The University of Nevada, Reno will host the event for the first time this Saturday in the Davidson Mathematics and Science Center and Scrugham Engineering and Mines buildings on campus.

Emotional goodbye

Pershing General Hospital Nursing Home residents, including Donnie Keller, 79, said emotional goodbyes to their beloved friend and social worker Mavis Lawrence during last week's farewell party. Some residents cried as they hugged Lawrence who, after serving residents for three years, had to leave the job for personal reasons. The nursing home is part of Pershing General Hospital in Lovelock.

Wind storm

JUDY MOSBY • "Wind" was the weather word last week, according to Pershing County resident Judy Mosby. Or more specifically, "Haboob." "Yes, I believe we can call our dust storms haboobs," Mosby said. The storm approaches Lovelock on Feb. 29, while a damaged shed is pictured the day after on March 1. "But for two motorcycles on a wood floor, it would have been long gone, into the wild blue yonder," Mosby said of the shed.
