Lady Longhorns start season at White Pine tournament

The Battle Mountain High School volleyball team climbed onto the bus this past weekend for a two-day tournament at White Pine High School in Ely. “Ever since White Pine went to Southern 2A, this tournament allows us to play some teams we wouldn’t normally see in our regular season,” said BMHS coach Julia Ramirez.” “It was a great opportunity to play Milford this year because they have incredible court sense and run their offense well. We look forward to attending next fall”.

Pershing County volleyball team wins Silver Bracket at Yerington tournament

Last weekend, the PCHS volleyball team hit the ground running at the Yerington tournament, a 32-team event packed with games to watch and play. The Mustangs competed in multiple games over the two-day event and walked off with the championship for their bracket.

The Lowry High School volleyball team got its season started with six matches in two days at the Yerington tournament. The Lady Bucks went 1-2 on the first day of the tournament on Friday, losing 25-17 and 25-10 to Carson and 25-15-25-21 to Bishop, Calif.

Battle Mountain’s Nevaeh Serna and her NNA swim coach Michael Hall attended the High Country Short Course Championships in Minden from Aug. 2-4. Serna earned high-point honors in the 11-12-year-old division for girls. She will age up on Sept. 6, and is looking forward to the new challenges the older kids will bring.

Pershing County rolls through Wooster in opener

The Pershing County football season-opener ended in a landslide win for the Mustangs. Pershing County hosted the Wooster Colts under the Friday night lights and beat them 49-7, a far cry from last year’s 33-0 Mustang loss against the Colts.
